There are only four CL places avaible to English clubs, so if a team not in the top four win it they take the last place from ther team in 4th.
This isn’t true for the UEFA cup - the winners get an extra place, which could mean that if the FA cup final is between Arse and Man Utd and 'boro win the UEFA cup then the 8th placed team would qualify for the UEFA (and there’s some back-door route involving the Fair Play league that I don’t understand could add an extra place - but not 9th)
No arguments there, Blackburn deserved the points. Mark Hughes is posting an impressive first season in charge if you take Souey’s scorched-earth policy into account. He didn’t appear to inherit much to work with.
The Blues run-in is tricky. We have to play ManU and Arsenal back to back, plus Liverpool in a fortnight. Liverpool’s game in hand is against Blackburn, actually, next week I think. If we see off the RS at Anfield we’ll probably be alright.
Doesn’t it go down to the Semis for the UEFA Cup qualification from the FA Cup, so if the final is Arsenal v Man U then the winner of the third place playoff will qualify? (If there actually is a third place play-off, I’m not sure! There should be!)
Nope. It goes to the league. And there’s no third place play off!
There is also the fair play route which is very complex and far too difficult for this boy’s brain. It involves a lottery and some other stuff. And then tyhere’s the inter two-bob which offers, I think, three UEFA places (and which Spurs are banned from (at least we were).
Souness did a pretty good job in his first couple of seasons, getting us promoted and winning the League Cup. After that, he really lost the plot and I, along with almost every other Rovers fan, was glad to see the back of him. I was a little skeptical about Hughes at first, but if nothing else, he’s instilled one hell of a work ethic into the team.
Well hopefully we’ll be able to give you a helping hand then!

6th place tied for points with Liverpool. All on a shoestring. Big Sam is the man. If we can finish this season off as we did last season then Europe beckons. Come on you white men!
Looks like the only thing on mainstream here will be Chelsea v Barcelona today, live at 2:30 pm EST. If you’re stuck in the USA then the only way to see the other matches is on ESPN Deportes, which isn’t available everywhere.
Ronaldinho, learn how to lose, son. Mourinho, I want to have your babies.
Congrats to Chelsea from a fair-weather United fan. True to form, this Birmingham-born, Hong Kong-resident pawn sandwich muncher switched channels when all seemed lost at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Arse and 'Pool, remember those foreign johnnies (yeah, especially that nancy boy Hargreaves) don’t like it up 'em. Give 'em a bit of cold steel tomorrow.
Yeah, but for whatever reason they don’t hold rights to the Champions League so we’re subject to the indecipherable whims of ESPN.
On the subject of Chelsea v Barca, Carvalho(sp?) was holding Vasquez on the last goal. Don’t know if he could have got there, but there should have been a foul called on Chelsea there and maybe a card. And Glen Johnson’s yellow should have been his second and he would have been off with 20 minutes left to go. My TiVo went out for 5-10 minutes before the 87th minute, but I guess I didn’t miss anything too important. What were Reickard and Ronaldinho being restrained for after the match? Were they going to draw eyebrows on Collina?
The scuffle at the end seemed to have something to do with one of Chelsea’s dago trainers or a steward, depending on which version you listen to. Basically, though, they’re just bad losers.
In other games, Manchester lost to Milan 1-0 (Crespo with a tremendous header - so another Chelsea player got on the scoreboard) and Lyon beat Bremen 7-2, alhtough that might have been a cricket match.
I think they had to postpone Intermilan by a week since both games were scheduled to be played in the same facility. They said something like that just now on the Week wrap up (where I was able to see the highlights).
I am actually beginning to realise that hating Chelsea is completely missing the point. Alright they may be a tin pot, two bob club with a cowshed ground and the worlds worst fans (no marks from the World’s End Estate and a few Murdoch Newfan wankers), and they may never have won anything and they may have absolutely no class, but this is like complaining about Bill Gates. You may not like him, but he is everywhere and his is the only game in town.
I can’t see anything but a world of hurt for the gooners tonight - but Liverpool should cruise through easily enough.
BTW the “handbags” at the end of the game were because etoo claimed that a CFC steward called him a monkey.
From the way he was playing last night, I think he must have misheard the “doh” sound for a “muh” sound…
I missed the first half, but I’m assuming from the scoreline that it was a much better game overall than the scrappy affair that was the second half, right?
