Enjoy canned salmon? Next time you eat it, try not to think about this!

Good luck not eying every bit suspiciously like it might be a worm.

I once found a living worm in a piece of cod that I was cutting up. It wrapped itself around my finger and squeezed. I think it was a few years until I ate fish again.

Same here. Ours was in a piece of salmon from Costco (we observed, but did not interact with it). We brought it right back and they gave us a refund, no questions asked. While indicative of a healthy wild salmon, and if cooked it becomes harmless, it still grossed-out my wife so much she wont eat fresh salmon any more - only frozen (altho I have seen her eat sushi, which ISTM is more risky, but that’s another topic).

In a lot of places, the fish will have been previously frozen, anyway. In NYC, it’s required. Elsewhere, it’s just an FDA recommendation.

Eh, gonna have to better than that to gross me out. Canned salmon is cooked so thoroughly the bones are crumbly and edible. When I eat canned salmon I eat everything- flesh, bones, skin. The oily liquid it’s packed in makes a good seafood soup base addition. A potential few little cooked worms don’t bother me.

I never find a huggy worm in my fish. Lucky.

Oddly enough, I have a not that old can of salmon that was left here by a house guest. Does anyone have any good recipes?

Yuck!

Thx
now I have another repulsion.

Worms and Fish…
They have a long relationship…it seems.
