Enlarged taste bud?

For about 2 months I have had an annoying, slightly painful taste bud on the right side of my tongue that is inflammed. I have looked everywhere on the web and have found no answers to what it could be, how long it will last, if they are cancerous or how to get rid of it. My man is about ready to cut it off himself!! It has grown slowly, and I don’t recall having bit my tongue or anything to promote it! Any answers?

Is it a tiny little white spot? I get these from time to time. I always cut them off (it’s painless).

Do you have regular dental appointments for cleaning? It might not be a taste bud. I had a pea-sized lump taken off my tongue a few years ago. The diagnosis: “irritational fibroma.” Basically, just an accumulation of scar tissue that might have had it’s origin in a good ole ::CHOMP:: in the distant past. I had never noticed mine until I started feeling it rubbing agains the back of my mouth. I was close to my semi-annual cleaning, and asked them about it. The hygienist, who had been doing my teeth for years, said that “It’s been there a while, but I do think it has gotten bigger.”

They set up an appointment with an oral surgeon. He pulled out the old laser and it was gone. I have a few other smaller ones that they do monitor to see if they are increasing.

If you smoke, have ever smoke, or chew tobacco or snuff, you might want to see a doctor, soon. Well, I think you should see one anyway, but especially if you now or have ever smoked.

Thanks everyone. No I don’t use tobacco… and yeah, I just went to my regular dental check up and she said it was nothing, just an enlarged taste bud. “Sometimes they go away and sometimes they don’t.” Easy for her to say… So I just had my man cut it off, numbed with ice. Your right, it didn’t hurt, a little bit of blood, but that stopped quickly. Thanks for the input. Cheers, Sunshiny

I used to get those from eating hard breakfast cereal like Cocoa Puffs or Cap’n Crunch.

I get these all the time, too. They usually last a few days unless I bite them off. Yum!!
