Yep, Starbuck always carried his coffee mug around with him on Ahab’s ship.
“And I alone am escaped to tell thee…”
Yes, Tars, to your question. I was trying to steer away from B.G., but since you ast…I felt compelled to answer.

Plus, Starbucks coffee started in Seattle, which was a major Whaling port.
Whales
Whales
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…
There is a connection.
See ya 'round the galaxy, big boy…
Big Boy who?
Hamburgers?
Hamburger connection?
Whaleburgers?
You guys like Italian whaleburgers?
See ya 'round the galaxy…
Okay, I’ll tell ya.
It’s the glasses.
Kirk sells them in 1986 when they’re chasing whales.
This is before, yet after, Bones gives them to him in TWOK.
In TVH, they are playing the part of whalers.
Kahn likes Moby Dick.
Kirk was reading A Tale Of Two Cities and had to use his glasses.
Which he sold in 1986, after he got them from Bones.
“Dammit Jim! Other people have birthdays, why are we treating yours like a funeral?”
As far as I can see, the best and worst of times became manifest in Genesis. They lost Spock (boo!), yet they got him back (yeay!). They went home (yeay!), to a court martial (boo!). They saved their “good” future/present by going back to their “bad” past. Whales, like Moby, you see, saved their asses.
Sure, it’s all a stretch, but it fit together in my twisted mind. Maybe The Great Bird of the Galaxy had that in the back of his mind, maybe it’s just a fascinating coincidence. A 3 movie geek arc.
Janeway drinks a lot of coffee, but I wasn’t thinking about that.
It was just the classic literature references that got me working.
okay, that wasn’t very good after all, was it? What do you expect form an off the cuff challenge?
What other literary refs can we find in Trek eps?
(Several Picardian things jump out at me!)
Kn(*)ckers will probably try to make something funny out of that parenthetical staement, you watch.
I have a Dr. Demento Cd with Star Trekkin’ on it!
Star Trekkin
Across the universe
Always going forward
'Cause we can’t find Reverse
Hello?
i have that CD. a later one has the Star Trek skit by Bobby “Boris” Picket (of Monster Mash fame). i also have Spock On, a neat Trek Rap, and Do the Picard that i acquired via…sources. (probably more, just the ones i remember offhand)
I have a TOS Special Effects CD my mom bought me one Christmas for reasons still unknown to me a decade later.
I think that should be “What kind of crime is Star-buckin’?”
I’m so ashamed that I know that.
I guess, after Cervaise’s post, we know what kind of crime “starbuckin” is.
Take a look at this IMDB entry - they’re “re-imagining” it. And Starbuck’s female!
BTW, what’d I ever do to you, Aesiron? Were my limericks that bad?
What have they done to Face? Mad Dog Murdock Barclay will be ticked!
I pity da fool that mess with my man, Face!
But mostly I pity the fans of the original series.
I always harass the people I like*, Linus… just ask viva.
NCB is the exception to this rule*
I kid, I kid.*
***Or do I? :dubious:
I have a tape with Star Dreck (Pickett’s deal), The Trouble with Klingons, Star Trip (a very long sketch), the one that NCB mentioned, and several more, from one of Dr. Demento’s Trek song and skit marathons.
Why the hay is everybody “re-imagining” things these day? Planet of the Apes, Willy Wonka, and now Battlestar Galactica.
Is Trek next?
these days .
sitting here re-imagining Star Trek…hmmmmm…
Huh. Re-imagining.
They should re-imagine that silly Minefield episode from last night, without the boring-ass defusing scenes.
And with more [fushia]Panda[/fushia]. Can never have too much…
Goddamitahell. Need to be paying attention to coding.
Panda
I used to know a girl named Sandy Brown
(There ain’t no fuschia. I don’t even know what the hell fuschia looks like, except it’s a color.)
Dammit, if I want there to be a fuchsia, there’ll be one.
Now that I know how to spell it…
It’s a purply-pinky thing… Not as red as what I ended up with above. Also it’s a plant. But that’s not what I was talking about.
