The Pon Farr scene is comedic at best. Fourteen year old males will love it.

The first Tellarite is ok, the second pretty bad. They look like the old tellarites with putty stuck on their faces rather than wearing a mask.
The tusks are good, though.
The character is variable, too.

Clunker after clunker… crappy changed premises, blatant rip offs of plots… Is there anything that makes this worth watching any more?

I was watching The two original pilots “The Cage” and “Where no man has gone before”
and it dawnwed on me… The producers were pulling their vision of the Early years from… STNG DS9 and Voyager and not from Star Trek! Look at the technology they hint at… Holo suites, nano technology (a la the unexpected and unwanted appearance of the Borg) and also appearences by the later races.
What they missed was the retro technology demonstratied by those early pilots which should have been the blue print to where they should have worked backwards from.
Where is the Gooseneck on the Captins chair? The Wave technolgy (something needs to be brought on screen it is activated by a wave of the hand over a panel). The Captain’s hat… jackets and back packs for planetary excursions. A red alert that sounds like the one on Pikes Enterprise. The television set in pikes room. The Doctors medical bags. Where are all of these things? Did they suddenly regress for a short time in the 23rd century?
The races should be more along the lines seen in the original. Those are the core races that were within the old UFP reach. Andorians, Vulcans Tellerites many human races, Klingons Romulans, Possibly the Tholians. Those giant cave guys from Rigel 7. The Orions and their green Slave women.
No Nausicans no Ferenghi, no no no!
If you are going to drop juicy hints of the future… use the original series not 225 years into their “supposed future”
Sorry for the rant but I’m just bugged at how bad they have done with this series.
You’ll be wanting paper printouts and smooth headed Klingons next!
I tend to agree with you.
I wanted them to use “The Forbidden Planet” era stuff.
This is all just a horrible nightmare that will soon pass.
On the plus side, this nightmare has much panda.
