Enterprise: North Star Spoilers

This is good classic Trek. Nothing about the arc, but a good pre Prime Directive episode. I could see Kirk delivering the last line.
How does Kir… er, Archer convince MacReady?
Does Deputy Dawg say ‘fuck’?
Oh, yes, Malcolm’s unique hostage situation solution.
Enjoy.

I keep imagining the worse and envisioning this episode as a cross of “Spectre of the Gun” and “A Fistfull of Datas”.

I HATE westerns.

The Good, the Bad, and the Phlox.

Before viva the grammar nazi gets here, I meant sorst, not worse.

Stupid typos.

Sigh.

I am not a morning person.

It is a Western setting because the people were kidnapped 300 years ago. The setting is to explain social mores and actions rather than for the plot. Although, when it was clear that the woman was a teacher, I thought “Oh no, a School Marm. This is gonna suck.”
I was wrong.
It is a plot device to explain how a small population that feels threatened by people who are different deals with the situation.
And I figured out what Archer tells MacReady.
Backula is basically doing a Quantum Leap episode. It makes the most of his two available facial expressions.
Again, pay attention! Does Deputy Dawg say the F word?

As long as there are no Blazing Saddles Meets the ST5 Campfire Scene bits in it, it all sounds fine to me.
Funny…I seem to recall that weeks ago, when I posted the spoilers for this ep., some of y’all had your minds made up that it would blow.

The same thing could happen with next year’s Valentine ep. I’m gonna wait and see.

viva the grammar nazi…See you later.

Trip: They lose me right after the bunker scene
Mayweather: Excuse me while i whip this out!

Sorry about the “up yours, N-----.
You won’t tell anyone about the pie, will you?”

Before seeing the episode tonight, I wonder about the following points:[ul][]Apparently the abductors found a planet that would support terrestrial animal and crop life.[]How did the small town maintain a sufficient gene pool in all these generations?[]Aren’t they overwhelmingly shocked to find outsiders since they haven’t seen any in many generations?[]The people and horses were abducted. I was thinking about that episode where Quantum and Reid were captured by some military folks and pretended to be super soldiers. Then it occured to me that they used that cloaked ship to save them. What ever happened to that ship? Did it blow up? Did they give it to the folks on Earth? Did it never exist in the first place and my brain made it up to explain an otherwise terrible plot?

It’s being studied at Starfleet.

Did anybody notice that Archer dropped his phaser right after he was shot? I wonder if that will figure into a later episode. Say, Enterprise returns some seasons later and finds that a xenophobe is controlling the whole town with it or something.

I liked it.

The cinematography was outstanding. The musical score reminded me of Wild Wild West. The redhaired chick was giving me fits, she’s so lovely.

The story… (didn’t SG-1 do something like this?) Actually a good story. Sure, it was cliched. But, it was done well enough that the cliche was actually fun to see develope.

A nitpick, though. Why, when the Hoo-mahns took over, would they go back to their old technology? Why not use the Skag’s advanced weaponry and sci-fi gizmos?

Because then we wouldn’t get a Western, that’s why.

Still, I liked it. I think it was very good, not just passable.

When Malcolm shot T’Pol, I liked his little smirk.

Apparently the abductors found a planet that would support terrestrial animal and crop life. -yes-

How did the small town maintain a sufficient gene pool in all these generations? -Over 6000 population-

Aren’t they overwhelmingly shocked to find outsiders since they haven’t seen any in many generations? -nope. Skags took 'em light years away. what’s a few flying humans?-

The people and horses were abducted. What else? Cattle? Seed grain? Farming equipment? Mining equipment? Blacksmithing/Tanning? -Apparantly enopugh to make a colony viable with Humans as slave labor-

Does the crew have a really fast tailor and leather goods, or do they steal clothing? - insufficient data-

Does Archer get to make a “choice” in deciding whether to tell these people they are not on Earth, or is that slippery slope avoided? -he felt it’s their birth right, since they were kidnapped-

Could the MACO help out in these gun fights and hostage situations? - they did-

Could anybody use stun grenades? -Saw none-

Since Archer uses the transporter, could they use it in some other inevitable hostage situation? -why not?-

Couldn’t they land the shuttle inconspicuously outside town and reconnoiter, or did this happen after the townsfolk knew about the crew? -that scene is the climax-

Trip seems like a gutsy guy who would have learned to ride, and Archer rides his water-polo horse, so that’s okay. -pleny the elder died young-

Were the original abductees given anal probes, and did the townsfolk carry on that tradition at the annual founders day picnic? - you don’t want to see the behind the scenes discussions. I probed the schoolmarm myself. In my dreams!-

The founder whose phiz was on the wall destroyed the technology in the slave revolt because he didn’t want it used against him and/or he did not understand it.
