I always want to come up with something eloquent to say, and Cervaise always tops me. Writing the review seems somewhat pointless considering the train wreck Bergama have made of the series. I saw the article about Braga stepping back and I hope Coto is in charge, but then I am so sad for him having to continue from such a bad finale.
I liked Blalok’s acting for T’Pol. I felt she acted the stress and the emotions well. I even liked her repeating Trip’s line “maybe Vulcans aren’t as tough” and Phlox’s “wish for the best.” I felt that Mayweather and even Hoshi were still cheated of having airtime and character development.
I didn’t like Archer’s scene’s with Hoshi. He should have helped her by being the stern captain to see if that would focus her thoughts on the job at hand. Then, seeing that wasn’t working he should have taken a more fatherly approach. He should have reminded her that when he saw her in Brazil she was a brilliant academic and now she has grown into a mature confident woman capable of meeting these hardships and that she is needed. Archer is always made too distant from being human. Like a captain must be above all of these human emotions when those emotions are what make us worthwhile.
Even though the scene at the signing of the Federation Charter was cheesy, I still got a bit of a thrill (fanitis I guess). I saw the Emblem on the wall over the rampway door and smiled. I just didn’t understand why the stadium was perched on top of a starship saucer section :). And I didn’t see accommodations for non-humanoid and especially aquatic species.
[ul][li]The Reptilians called the Avians their “brothers” so I guess the Avians would have been just as nasty had they lived.[]Were those Xindi-mice? They sure looked like mice from Earth. Couldn’t even post-production a red, blue, or other color to make them look alien? :([]I wonder if Archer had considered a kamikaze action with Degra’s ship, and if he did, did he tell the Primate and Arboreal Xindi?[]Archer, “Do you had a PADD?” Xindi, “No, we have starships, vortices, and can destroy a planet, but we don’t have portable computers.” :([]Does it seem odd to you too that the Trannie’s talk of “interference and reduction in the favorable timelines” in the present tense. []Because Archer and Reed are away, T’Pol get’s Phlox’s science advice on Anomaly physics and lets him come to the bridge. It’s okay, but he wasn’t included that way previously.[]The Reptilians say they need time since they only have 3 codes (to activate the Weapon) vs. 5 codes. What do they need to do with this extra time. Especially since they were ready when the Weapon exited the vortex.
[]I takes just 7 years to sign the Federation charter. I don’t think diplomatic negotiations to form a Federation can happen in 7 years. :([]Phlox dictates his will, but does he really expect that they can send it in time; from this deep in the Expanse; just before a potential suicide mission? :([]I’ve always hated it when the helm calls and says “Approaching coordinates” and the (acting-)captain says “Take us out of warp.” They should be sure of where they are before giving that order :wally[]So being in a heavy Anolmaly region turns everone sepia? For awhile?[]When the Reptilian commander orders the view of Earth to be enlarged, I would expect more than a softball size image! And where’s the moon?[]I wish the Reptilian had called the unarmed orbital space station “prey”. Oh, and did you hear that cute “boom” in space when it exploded? :([]I should have seen Shran showing up, but it’s still cheesy (love the antenna though!)[]memo to Phox: When you know something like the frequency to disrupt the Trannie’s, REPORT IT TO THE CAPTAIN. Archer and Reed might have needed it! The MAACOs would like to know beforehand! :wally:mad:[]Archer inverting rods that then change color. Ha![]So now we know, the Sphere gravity goes all the way down :([]A bit of Luke Skywalker with Archer hanging off the railing.[]I LOVED that spin the Reptilian gave Archer. :D[]Archer takes four grenades. It’s important to use one to stop the little rotating ball? And while I LOVEd using one to take out the Reptilian (hehe), it was extravagant since he was there to blow up the Sphere. Then again he couldn’t do that if the Reptilian killed him.[]I like the “old oil painting” speech.[/ul][/li]Now for the bad part!
Alien Nazis on Earth in the past. Where is the vomit smilie when you need it! I do not envy Coto this next season. I believe he can put character development in and I look forward to it, but it’s all like the old joke: A man enters hell. He can choose the room of eternal fire, eternal ice, or the room where everyone is drinking coffee and reading the newspaper while standing knee-deep in shit. He chooses the later. Then he hears, “Okay, break’s over, back on your head!”
I can only think that the premise is: The Trannie’s had hidden Reptilians in the past to create a bioweapon. Since Archer-et-al defeated them in the 22nd century, the Trannie’s sent (or allied with) a race back to the 1940s to help destroy humanity by changing humanity. Daniels helped combat this by sending everyone back as well. The Aquatics dropped off Enterprise so I assume they shifted back in time after that point.
I suspect the plotlines shifted to this dreck for only one reason. Money. I’ve heard that Enterprise is very expensive. Shifting them to Earth and an historic setting means they can minimize special effects and (I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope) concentrate on character development, suspense, and intrigue. {Yes, I’m an optimist. Why do you ask?} The BBC loves historical dramas because they have all the locales, props, and wardrobe. It’s cheaper to make an historical drama. The 3rd season of Dr. Who had the Doctor stranded on Earth because the show was cutting it’s budget and they wouldn’t have to make as much in the way of alien sets. So I think Braga is proud of this dreck and has stuck Coto with an almost impossible task!
