Entire DC subway system to shut down on Wednesday

Story here. There was a fire that disrupted some of the lines on Monday, and apparently the inspection of that incident turned up something disastrously wrong lurking throughout the whole system.

Now we’re waiting to see whether the government will close tomorrow or just declare unscheduled leave. There isn’t road or parking capacity for everyone to drive. Tomorrow will not be an easy travel day.

So why not do it on the weekend?

Because top Metro staff doesn’t want to work on the weekends? Or the unions would object?

Pretty obvious that they don’t want to take a chance on another death, I’m guessing due to the scathing report that the Washingonian ran in December.

There’s an existing thread in IMHO, BTW.

Ah, I didn’t look in IMHO.
