Will you tell Sloan I said, “What up?”
This is pretty much my understanding- the agent handles the career, and the manager handles the person. Sometimes they dovetail, sometimes they cover the same ground, but there’s definitely a need to keep an arm’s length between the client and the agent.
And every episode could use more Sloan.
I have ambivalent feelings about this show. I like Jeremy Piven and Kevin Dillon on the show and I like the material that actually deals with the movie business, but I get so sick of half of every episode being a party scene and I really can’t stand Turtle. He’s such a repulsive little parasite. He almost ruins the show for me.
Do we really need a party in every single episode? After a while that just starts to become tedious and juvenile. Oh look, it’s girls in bikinis serving umbrella drinks. Just like every single other episode ever.
I feel the same way a lot of the time… but really life for that kind of celebrity would be party after party.
I seem to remember an interview with the show’s producer who described it as wish fulfillment, which is what Turtle is there for. (And he might seem to be a parasite, but he does drive Vince places and Vince does seem to appreciate having them around to ground him.)
As for the agent vs manager thing, I think there are certain things that an agent is legally barred from doing (producing movies?).
