Entourage Won't Send Mail- So Very Confused

On a whim, I decided to give Microsloth’s Entourage a whirl yesterday. Imported everything from Express, and it looked good. Mail came in as it should, and merrily segregated itself based on the usual rules. How easy! How smooth! I was lured into believing a mail program change could be so nice and glitchless.

Until I went to send mail. :smack: Entourage…won’t. All the settings are the same. It gets mail just fine. For the love of og, why won’t it send?!

I just get this error message:
“A message in your Outbox could not be sent using account “olionetti.” The server did not recognize the recipients or the server refuses to allow you to send mail.”

Going back to Outlook, it’ll send just fine. So it’s not like my ISP is being weird.

I have quit and gone back, redone the account information, done everything else I could think of.

Am I doomed to have to send mail through outlook only? What is wrong with this picture?

I have had that problem before, and one issue appeared to be that my ISP wouldn’t accept a different “Reply To” email address - something to do with server authentication?

I have also had that issue when my ISP’s mail servers have been down/buggy, and have had to wait for a few hours.

I get this error at times. This works for me.

Go to Accounts under the Tools menu. Select the account “olionetti” in the list and click on edit. Under the Account Settings tab there is a section on sending mail. In this section there is a button labeled “Click here for advanced sending options.” Click on the button. A new window will open with several options. The option “SMTP server requires authentication” is probably not selected. If not, select it and also select “Use same settings as server for receiving mail.” Then close all the windows via close box or “OK” button.

Sometimes it’s necessary to unselect the authentication option. I’ve never been able to figure out why.

I remember troubleshooting an Entourage problem for clients when we switched to SMTP Authentication. Our users have to login as username@domain.com but Entourage wouldn’t accept the @, they had to change it to username_domain.com I believe. I can’t find the article that said that, tho :frowning:

I always had it set up to require SMTP auth. Now I tried it with and without it. No soap. :frowning:

I’ll keep fiddling.

Still no sending mail love. Auuuuughhhhh! Tried the Mac forums, but there weren’t any suggestions. Anyone else wanna give it a go?
