Epic Mickey is real!

I know a lot of people on this board were interested in the rumored “Epic Mickey” game possibly in development for the Wii. Well, I’m happy to say, it’s real and it’s coming next year.

The first info will be in the next issue of Game Informer and they plan to post a lot more on their site over the next few weeks.

Oh, and just to head this question off at the pass, nobody knows just yet how much of that awesome steampunk art will make it into the final game.

Thanks for the update! I am looking forward to this game very, very much.

With the recent Disney/Marvel merge, and chance of those characters showing up?

Is it only for the Wii?

Yup. Wii exclusive. Fall 2010.

Hm. In that case, I’ll hold off and see the reviews.

EEE!

Dude, the game was announced a few hours ago and you’ve gone from thinking it’s a must have to deciding to wait for the reviews.

It’s still a year away and there aren’t even any screenshots yet. Relax.

I don’t know if I ever called it a must-have, but it only being on the Wii gives me trepidation. I’d prefer it on the 360, but hopefully I’ll be wrong and it’ll be a good game. If it shapes up nicely, I could see me preordering it.

But why does it being on the Wii give you trepidation? We’ve been over this, there’s nothing inherently bad about Wii games, no matter how much you want to believe there is.

No, but, for better or worse, the public pretty much perceives the Wii as a casual or kiddie console. This means that games for it are more likely to appeal to a younger demographic. So it’s a bit worrying when a game you like because it seems dark is going to come out on the Wii.

Plus, a lot of hardcore gamers just don’t like the Wii’s controls.

This is an unbiased look, as I’ve had to, for financial reasons, sit this console generation out. (Well, that and that I don’t like FPS or action RPGs)

Well no offense to the public, but they’re a bunch of idiots when it comes to the “console wars”. There are a ton of great games on all three consoles and all of them have their fair share of stinkers as well.

Because I’m not a fan of the controller and the graphics aren’t as good. The same game, if it were on the 360, I’d get over the Wii version any day of the week.

And yes, we’ve gone over this before, and I just don’t prefer the Wii.

I only own a Wii, and I’ll hold off for the review, as I do most games. If I owned both systems, I would be psyched Wii’s going to get a POTENTIALY good and stylized game. I mean, if it was for 360 and Wii, you would be even less likely to get the Wii version. Wii can pull off some nice visuals if the if there’s serious effort put into it. Especially in ‘cartoonivers’.

I was interested in seeing screens when I saw the concept art on a game forum, thinking it was most likely going to be for the PS3 and 360. Still want to wait for screens and reviews, but I loved the style of the concept art I saw… actually made me think more about Disney winning me over on something, more than hoping it was going to even come for Wii, let alone a Wii exclusive.

Just image google: ‘Epic Mickey’ to see it… it’s makes me wish Nintendo would do a similar, gritty/darker look, for something like Mario.

edit; Was posting before reading above comment… Why do you not sell Wii?

It still gets used, and I’d like to think there are some worthwhile games that won’t disappoint me on it.

Well. Maybe this will be a good one. If it isn’t, it still had the potential to suck on the other systems. I’m personally glad the Wii had, (has), a gaming drought because I can’t spend much on luxury items, but no matter what I’m going to miss out on a a lot of gems. It’s not just money, but time.

I completely understand. Time has been hard to come across for me, for I’ve been rather busy recently, and this is in time for Dragon Age, Borderlands, and Modern Warfare 2.

Ick, I hope not. It would be like 90’s comics all over again.

I can’t get excited about this until I actually see it in action. I’ll maintain the required levels of dubiousness that I have toward any game until it’s demonstrated to be something other than a big concept.

I’m thoroughly waiting and seeing; I’m a little annoyed that it’s for the Wii because A) I don’t have a Wii and B) Every vaguely “traditional” game I’ve played on the Wii would have been more fun on another console because I hate how developers seem to think “This action that should be tied to a button press? Yeah. We’re gonna key that to a controller waggle, 'cause, you know. Motion sensor.” You will note that B is a significant factor in A.

Anyway, there are so many possible ways this game could muck up, and it needs to have near perfect marks in all of them to be good, so… potential is high for failure, but potential is present for… epic. We’ll see. In like, July, 2010.

Why not put a game for any system under such scrutiny? What make’s you think this is a “traditional” game? Looks like Mickey has a paint brush in his hand, perhaps that’s got something to do with it, (though I have no idea)?

I think you’re safe not owning a Wii, since your seemingly more cynical about it’s software or potential. It’s not for everyone, but no game’s perfect.
