Er 4/26

Gates and his drunken dad had a set-to last week, but it will get worse tonight.

When Gates’ father showed up in the last episode, I tried to remember when and under what circumstances he started living there. Can someone fill me in? I have missed a couple of episodes this season, and I just don’t remember him moving in.

I thought this was the best episode in a while. The bit with Sam and the photographer was very well done.

And it was nice to see Randy from The Wire (as the violinist).

I turn it on out of habit but I barely watch it anymore. It seems to me that a lot of what I’m hearing has all been done before. I could have sworn Pratt previosly had some issues with his brother, somebody had troubles with a drunken and or crazy family member, a male doctor was the type to have sex with co-workers and then never call them because he really wanted another co-worker who wouldn’t date him, a know-it-all intern that doesn’t listen to the resident and does what he wants and gets in trouble for it, dying patients, teh ER chief resigning, the ER closing, etc. etc.

They’ve run out of ideas, I think that next they’ll have to come up with some sort of alien storyline … oops.

I think Wile E sums it up. And in the series finale, we’ll learn that the last 12 (or whatever) years have been the imagination of nurse Carol Hathaway as she lay close to death from her suicide attempt.

That’s fine by me. Perhaps they could bring Mark Greene back to pull the plug on her?

A couple of questions:

What was the ailment that was killing the photographer? I couldn’t make out most of the dialogue or why it was fatal.

What was the piece of music that the boy was playing towards the end? I know I’ve heard it before.

Gates’ father never officially moved in, it was more like he just showed up with all his worldly belongings in a single sack and asked for a few days of couch time “just until I get it back together.” But, of course, with a chronic alcoholic, that often is as official as it gets.

The photographer had ovarian cancer, the first time. Then it spread around a bit, and she was already working on round 3 when she met Sam while doing the pics of the old man for the Hospice series. I dunno exactly what to call it, it was end stage and at one point it was referred to as “bone, lung and (something else) cancer, end stage” but at another point as simply ovarian, perhaps because that was the initial diagnosis?

Gates’s (non)daughter bugs me, do they go out of their way to write every child character as obnoxious, dangerous or stupid? Mark Greene’s daughter was a bitch, although they allowed her redemption when he was dying, the trainwreck that is Alex, now the blond girl. Ick.

The only kid who I could ever stand on this show was Reese, Benton’s adorable little boy.

Nahh - that damn kid from St. Elsewhere got himself a couple new snow globes. Hence, we have the explanation for **Lost **as well

Odd. I think she’s written and acted fantastically, and is the best new thing to happen to the show in quite some time.

Sarah’s growing on me a little bit. I wasn’t impressed earlier, especially in the episode where Meg died, but I wouldn’t be able to tell you why. I think she was too calm, almost accepting. But she is mature for her age, so maybe that was appropriate.

Is Luka leaving the show? He quit his administrative position. Does that mean he’s done at the hospital, or that he’ll stay but as just a doctor?

Isn’t Morris amazing? That character has come a long way.
