Er 9/28

I forgot to mention the part that pissed me off. Luka walking into the NICU in his white coat and the doc asking him to take it off because of the ER germs. Well, it’s a little late then, isn’t it? Shouldn’t he have known better? Our NICU has a whole area where you scrub your hands and everything and don’t just walk straight up to the babies. And then, “they don’t allow coffee in here” “no one’s looking”. Damn, you’re all worried about your baby but you don’t follow the guidelines of the NICU??

kittenblue, the incidence is right on the edge of my brain…all I can say is good on Weaver for saving Kovac when he is in the middle of a personal crisis.

I wasn’t watching very close, but I heard, what seemed like a passing remark that Elizabeth was killed in Iraq. Did I miss-hear that?
I didn’t watch it at all last season. Did Elizabeth join the Army?!

yellowval, yes, if the baby had gained enough weight, it could be sent home that soon. I didn’t catch what surgery they did, but I’ve cared for premies that had open heart surgery and went home a couple weeks later. Once they start growing, there’s no stopping them. Most places, they have to be over two kilos to go home.

It’s still on???

:stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you, picunurse. This show has tried to pass so much unbelievable crap over on me, I have a hard time trusting anything anymore. They had said that Joe was now a “grower and a feeder” right before the alarms started going off and he went into surgery. He had a perforation, which I guess I just assumed was a perforated bowel. I really had no idea though.

If it’s the same comment, John Stamos got told that Neela’s husband was killed in Iraq. Thus he understood her loneliness.

Joe had a “perforated intestine” which was operated on. The only foul I call on that is that they didn’t notice NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis) before a perforation, or at least didn’t tell us it was being watched. NEC starts with a visible shadow and is the second most worried about thing in NICU, after lung development.

WhyBaby had a shadow on her belly for two days of extreme nervousness that turned out not to be NEC, but she got watched uber-close and ultrasounded multiple times daily to keep an eye on it. I suppose it’s possible no one noticed, but usually NEC gives you a little more warning than that.

But I did really like how the nurses dismissed the concerns of the overcontrolling Grandma (although in our NICU, she wouldn’t have been allowed in there without Mom or Dad present). Nurses are only human, and those alarms *do *go off all the time for absolutely no reason at all. You really learn to use your gut and only squawk when really needed, or you start to get rolleyes a lot.

Damn them! I swore after last season’s finale that I was done with the show. I missed this season opener and after hearing the plot I’m glad. So I casually watch this week’s show and got sucked back in. Damn them all to hell!

Sam and her son and Armand, well, I still don’t care about them.

Abby and her mom were perfect. Damn if that wasn’t firing on all cylinders. Sally Field and Maura Tierney were extremely believable as mother and daughter. Mom’s line about hoping Joe gives Abby as much grief as Abby gave mom was perfect. It was delivered with tenderness and yet you felt that she really meant it.

Carrie finally stepped up to the plate and took responsibility for something. I look forward to seeing her back in the ER. And, God help me, I’m really happy to see Morris back. I have a soft spot for his character.

John Stamos? Time will tell.

Is Maleka the only cast member from the first season left?

I have to put this back on my VCR schedule, dammit. I thought I was done with the show for good.

I kind of like this too, but I was really hoping Sam and her stupid son would get abducted by aliens or something.

Telemark - hasn’t Halay (sp?) been around from the start as well?

Me too.

Speaking of Morris, we rented the Twilight Zone series that was on in the '80s and watched the first part last weekend. In one episode, called “Little Boy Lost,” the little boy was so familiar to me and then it dawned on me … it was Morris! He hasn’t changed a bit. What a cutie he was!

I think that’s who I meant. The African-American nurse who lost a lot of weight at some point early on in the show. Maleek may have been there since the early days as well.

Well, Jerry was there from the start, even though he took a couple of seasons off (but so did Carrie Weaver.) And the other nurse, the Latina that dated Mark Green for awhile (Chani ?) - she was in a couple of scenes too, at least last week.

Haleh and the Spanish nurse who dated Mark Green briefly, Chuny. And imdb says nurse Lily and Frank have been there since 1994 as well.

Who is “Pickman”? Listed as 1994 to 2006 and here’s the actress Emily Wagner.

Yeah, he’s extremely . . . compelling. The compellingness of Goran Visnjic is a lot of the reason I still watch the show. Shane West is pretty compelling, too. On the other hand, I love Jerry but I don’t find him compelling in the slightest.

Oh, and count me in as disappointed that John Stamos is back. Once Gallant kicked it, I was seriously hoping Neela would have the brains to go for Ray.

Mmm, compelling. I think I’m going to go home and think about Goran Visnjic and Shane West while I compel myself.

Well, I disagree. I don’t like the new Alex one bit. The old one was sorta fun; the new one is boring and ugly. (Is it wrong to call children ugly?) But I like Sam. She’s a great character - independent, smart, tough . . . she was dumb to get knocked up by Steve but I find her one of the more appealing characters on the show.

Actually, though, I like most of the characters on ER pretty well. Even if the plotlines are getting stupider, I still want to find out what happens to the people on the show, so it’d have to get really, really awful before I quit watching. (Though all the John Leguizamo last season got me pretty close.) Plus, there’s a lot of good acting on the show. Sally Field and Maura Tierney last night were really a pleasure to watch together.

I don’t know, but her pictures on IMDB are sorta creepy . . .

Yes, I see that you are picking up what I’m laying down. C’mon, Neela and Ray!

And please don’t let Sam be pregnant. Or infected, because that would start the whole Jeannie thing again.

Fine with me if you call him ugly. If anyone’s going to hell in this thread, it’s going to be me. I’m the one who wants him to die. (Okay, so I want the character to die, not the actual kid. I’m not that evil.) I wonder how many actors have played that kid.

I think the root of my hatred for Sam lies in the fact that I never thought she was good enough for Luka. The only one who’s good enough for Luka is Abby and they should be together forever and ever. Unless he wants to be with me. Now that she’s not with Luka she’s growing on me a tiny bit. She had better not decide to date Ray though. He’s for Neela.

Is she one of the new interns? I saw someone who looked like her just briefly in this episode, and thought she was too attractive to be a one-off. IMDB has her in several more eps this season.

I loved Morris’s “It’s a scam – stick with Lasix” as he got his job back.

There was a brief appearance by Dahlia Salem who played Dr. Jessica Albright, who seemed to be having a brief romantic interest in Morris last season. I wonder if that’s who you’re thinking of. She appeared only for a moment on the show last night and she’s certainly attractive.

Oh, right the surgery resident type. It looks like this Pickman character has been on throughout the entire run.

The kid has been played so far by just two actors. The first one was irritating beyond belief, and the newer one is more tolerable but not too interesting.
