I am so ready for the Sam-Luka relationship to be over! What on Og’s green earth does she want? Why is Luka hanging around?
Are their scenes just poorly written? It makes no sense. I don’t understand her motivation at all. Yeah Sam, let the kid control your life. Hell, he probably knows what he wants, and that’s more than I can say for you. Examine your life much? Damn.
Does anyone think Neela’s intern faked his credentials? First year CNA’s wouldn’t make the mistakes he made. Have they done fake doctor before?
Same character, different actor, right? I was actually hoping that the thing that busted up the front end of the car was the kid hitchhiking on the side of the road.
That thought went through my mind too. It would have been up there with Rosalind falling down the elevator shaft (L.A. Law or Rick being hit by the satellite (Northern Exposure) in all time great one-hour show ironic morbidly funny deaths. But, no such luck.
Danny Glover, Kristen Johnson and John Leguizamo are going to be on the show this season. Maybe at least one of them will return just a tad of interest to the show.
That has got to be one of the suckiest season premier episodes I’ve ever seen! And AuntiePam, the dialogue between Luka and Sam was just awful! It made NO sense to me, and what’s more people just don’t talk that way, at least in my experience. GAH! Totally sucked and made me angry that I gave up an hour to drivel. About Alex, I don’t know if the character was re-cast, but it seemed that way to me and my daughter.
I have been a loyal fan since episode one, but I wasn’t even excited about the season premiere.
And good thing. It was blah. I can’t come up with a word that describes it better. Just blah. I’m sick of all things Luka and he was my favorite character since he joined the cast.
I can’t stand Sam or her spawn.
None of the other characters really stand out either anymore. I’m really hoping Kristen Johnson will add some comic relief because I can’t imagine her being anything but funny.
I would like to second (third? fourth?) the whole Sam and Luca plot sucking thing. Sam is especially grating my damn nerves. So your kid goes missing. Rather than sticking at home, you decide to drive ACROSS THE FRIGGIN’ COUNTRY WHEN YOU AREN’T EVEN SURE THAT IS WHERE YOUD KID IS GOING!
I’m dying to know what happened to cause the recasting of the kid. Growth spurt? Rockin’ the ganj? What?
As annoying as the Luka/Sam roadtrip storyline was, I felt little relief when they returned to the hospital. The whole R2 initiation thing just left me not caring at all about anyone.
Maura Tierney didn’t even show up until halfway through, which is never good. But I’m caring about Abby less and less.
And where’s the gimp? Is she still a regular?
Characters who I would have rather watched:
Pre-amputation Romano
Green
Lizzie
Carter
Carrie
Neela’s boytoy in Iraq
Erik Palladino’s character who got fired from hospital politics
The blonde chick who got stabbed and killed
Bipolar Abby Brother
Bipolar Abby Mom, for that matter
Kem! (and I hate Kem, though I do like Thandie Newton)
I like Abby and Sam, but both characters are wearing thin, Sam in particular. Pratt is good. And I’m done. What the hell am I watching this for? Rocker doctor guy isn’t doing it for me, and I truly hope he doesn’t become a focus of the show, but I think he will.
I’ll watch because I’m brainwashed, but that hour seemed looooooooooooong.
And why did she keep driving when she knew she was falling asleep. That’s when you turn to the person you’re with and say “Wake up, you drive” or just pull over for a while.
And another “Your kid is missing- he has no money- the most logical thing for him to do is come home- so be sure you’re not there when he gets back” illogic vote. And great coincidence that he just happened to find a truck hauling pickups to stowaway on. (And if I saw a 12 year old boy hitchhiking in the middle of the night and picked him up I would take him immediately to a police station or shelter, and I’m guessing the same is true of most motorists, though I can’t imagine that many 12 year old diabetics would be stupid enough to hitchhike in a huge city anyway- I mean this kid is from a poor single-parent home, surely he’s had the “don’t take rides from strangers” talk with graphic depictions of why not by now.)
And, if my diabetic twelve year old managed to make it from Chicago to Colorado and was still alive when I found him, he wouldn’t be for long. I sure as hell wouldn’t say “Well, since you’re here anyway, let’s go see your daddy in the prison and then catch the new Keanu flick and grab some calzone somewhere!”. Just all around unqualified stupid.
Seriously though, my mom always told me: Diosa, if you ever do something stupid like run away or get sent to jail, just don’t call me. Seriously, you are safer wherever it is you are.
Definite stupidity, driving to Davenport instead of waiting for the photo to be faxed to them.
And the doctor (!) went home (!) to get his digital camera (!) No one in the hospital had a camera? Hospitals are full of cameras. Maternity ward? Grandparents? Not to mention surgeons. Mine took four photos of my hip screws, for pete’s sake!
Nothing about that trip made any sense. And the actor playing Alex must be related to somebody. Good thing he was supposed to be lethargic.
Huh. I liked it. Partly because I absolutely adore Linda Cardellini. But I thought her actions were both plausible and in character. Sure, they were irrational SHE’s irrational, particularly right now.
Luka and her motivations didn’t make sense to me… but then, reasons people break up, both in fiction and in real life, rarely make sense to me.
(And they left someone named “Erica”, presumably a babysitter or something, at home by the phone.)
Erica would come in handy if Alex called. That’s something.
It just made more sense to me, if they knew where Alex was headed, to do what they did – alert everyone along the route. Turns out that’s what worked, and good thing too, cuz Sam almost got them killed.
Good point, about Sam’s irrationality. I’d probably be irrational too, if my kid was missing. (But I wouldn’t be irrational about Luka.)
I liked Sam’s character at first, oooh tough competent single mom nurse who won’t take Romano’s shit, yay!
That lasted maybe 3 episodes. I would so smack her upside her stupid little blonde head if I knew her IRL. She’s a gawdawful parent and really…this man drops everything to indulge your irrationality because he (unlike bio-dad) actually cares deeply about you and your son and you give him shit?!
The I want more kids/I don’t fight is legit, sure. It’s the only legit drama Luka and Sam have ever had, though. She wants him to communicate more about his past, he does and her answer is “Why are you here?” instead of feeling closer? She gives her son a letter from prison-dad without even reading it, or how about not telling the child Dad’s in prison at all? Gah, I simply do not understand her motivations at all.
Neela’s intern was seriously smarmy and we were wondering if he was a fake too. Yay to see her growing the balls to address the issues directly, and I loved the ‘bubble bath and bonbons’ line to Morris. I want a burning helicopter to fall on Morris so badly, he is so not a good replacement for Romano as “person you love to hate” because Romano was an asshole but he was a supremely competent asshole. Morris just fills me with grr.
I’m pretty excited about Kirsten and John Leguizamo too, bummed that we didn’t get to meet them in the premiere. Nice to have something to look forward to, though.
Which is kind of cool, actually. You rarely have characters on shows like ER who aren’t evil or quirkily-assholish, they’re just a bit lazy and a bit incompetent.
I have never rooted so strongly for the violent death of a character as I have for that kid. One hates to have the desire to see a 12-year-old hit square-on by a semi, but here we are. Maybe with him rubbed out, Sam’s character would become interesting.
If he and Morris died in a tragic double accident, that would be perfect.
I actually thought last season was an improvement over previous years; it seemed to be a show about life for young doctors in the hospital again, instead of a soap opera peripherally related to a hospital (Luka/Sam/Alex drama aside).
They have (many years ago–she was some sort of supervisor), but he is completely believable as an intern. Lots of people come out of medical school with huge holes in their competence; that plus nervousness can make them appear to be blooming idiots. (I speak from very personal experience here.)
You guys are whooshing me right? I could have sworn that I watched the SERIES finale last season. Was that not it? Is there really another season? I sat down to watch TV last night and saw that ER was on and was a little confuised, then I read the episode description and it sounded so familiar ( and generic ) that I could have sworn I’d seen it before, so I dismissed it as a rerun and surfed over to something else. So there is really yet another season? As someone that has watched ER from the begining I must say that my non-reaction to having realized that I’ve missed the season premier is ho-hum to say the most. I guess this frees up my Thursday evenings this fall.
Man, I was hoping for that, too. Speaking of which, that’s a different actor playing the kid, right? And when did everyone turn into assholes- Pratt, Sam, etc.?
