Eric Idle's "FCC Song"

Has anyone else heard this song? The song seems like it was released rather recently because of the “duck hunting with a judge” remark. I think it’s a hilarious song.

It’s available here here.

Note for Mods: This is the official Monty Python website and they are letting people download it freely. So I don’t see any copyright issues here.

It’s been around a couple years at least IIRC.

It has. The duck-hunting trip with a judge was a reference to Dick Cheney and Antonin Scalia going hunting together in January, 2004. On Cheney’s more, um, eventful hunting trip, the quarry was quail. No judges were involved there as far as I know.

Ah okay. My mistake. However, this is the first I’ve heard of the song. Of course that was the first I’ve seen of that website a few minutes before I posted this thread. I’m just behind the times then.

It’s not a criticism or anything. Just throwing some info out there.

I didn’t take it that way. Just admitting I was wrong is all.

He had another song a couple of decades ago that was similar, and much more clever. It went like this (with the expletives replace by buzzers, bells, bleeps, bicyle horns, etc):

I’ll bet you they won’t play this song on the radio
I’ll bet you they won’t play this new **** song
It’s not that it’s *** or *** controversial
It’s just that the ****-ing words are awfully strong

You can’t say **** on the radio
or **** or **** or ****
You can’t even say I’d like to **** you someday,
Unless you’re a doctor with a very large ****

Etc.

Idle covers the writing and playing of the song on his American tour in his book, The Greedy Bastard Diary. It’s a fascinating book, both funny in an Idleish way and remarkably lyrical about the places he visits and revealing about his personal feelings as he creates the show, tours, and gets back to his family. Really a must for any Python fan.
