The thread on famous unsolved murders got me thinking about Eric Robert Rudolph. For any readers who may not remember, this is the guy suspected of abortion clinic bombings in Alabama and Georgia as well as the bombing at the Summer Olympics in 1996.
Is there any consensus on whether or not he’s still alive?
The FBI is still looking for him–he is on the top ten most wanted list.
Yeah, I went there to make sure I was spelling his name right before posting. 
I didn’t share my opinion in the OP so I’ll do it now.
I hope he is alive. I’d like to see him stand trial for what he’s accused of.
I would also find it interesting that a lone individual could elude such a search for so long. It’s interesting in a D.B. Cooper kind of mystery way.
While I find the crimes he’s charged with repugnant, I think I would have to respect his skills at staying alive in what to most people would be a hostile environment and eluding capture for so long. This is not to say I respect or agree with the actions he’s accused of or any philosophy which would promote such.
I hope they have investigated the “hiding in plain sight” theory. I’m thinking he may have created another identity before the bombings. Either that, or he was paid for the bombings, and is now out of the country waiting on a new contract. Or maybe I’ve been reading too much Robert Ludlum.

My mother’s theory is that he dressed in drag and escaped, and is now somewhere far away. It’s not an insane theory–look at those pictures; he would make a beautiful (and passable) woman.
A friend of mine comes from the Asheville, N.C. area where Rudolph has been purported to be hiding out. My friend thought that Rudolph could have gotten help from some people up that way who supported his views on abortion. If he has been hiding out in the mountains, he’d probably need some help to get through the winters.
Not long after some of the searches done by law enforcement were completed without sucess, a bumper sticker was seen on a few cars around Asheville that read “Eric Rudolph, Hide and Seek King”.
… about this guy? What he did was reprehensible, but what kind of info exists before the bombing? Does he have a record or did he just appear out of nowhere? I’m just as much a victim of what’s being released to the news media as the rest of you.
What he has done and the nurse he disfigured need to be answered.

I’ve thought along those lines. There’s quite a large bounty on him if I’m not mistaken. Maybe we could get a SDMB Posse together and bring him in. Then we could throw the World’s Largest Dopefest ever with the proceeds.
The SDMB (with its huge membership) does what the FBI can’t!
What do the moderators think of this? Has this ever been attempted?
