Escaped Tiger in San Francisco

The geometry might be hard to arrange, but it would save on Tiger Chow. ™

I think one of the articles mentioned that because of this another zoo is going to raise their wall which was only 13 1/2 feet high. So I wonder how many other zoos have this problem and why none of the organizations that inspect zoos never said, “we’re going to shut you down 'til you raise your wall”.

At least this young man’s death has brought this problem to the attention of the authorities and other zoos and now all zoo visitors everywhere will be able to taunt the large carnivorous animals with no fear of the animal seeking revenge.

an interesting aside… the 13.5’ wall is across the bay at the oakland zoo. hopefully they have a better moat and well behaved visitors.

One of my co-workers came up with n great design concept for zoo tuger enclosures,

You put a small hole at the bottom of the wall, with a BIG sign:

WARNING! KILLER TIGER ON OTHER SIDE OF WALL! DO NOT STICK YOUR HEAD, ARM, OR LEG THROUGH THIS HOLE!

Is anybody else but me thinking how perfect this incident would be to advertise running shoes?

Warning: Do not taunt this tiger by drawing faces on your butt cheeks.

I don’t think so. Imagine the claim in the lawsuit, “The ad said I could outrun an angry tiger with these shoes, but I COULDN’T! I had to pledge to testify to the truth by putting my stump on the bible.”

More allegations that the young men involved had been taunting the tiger.

Still doesn’t change my opinion that the zoo effed up, and remains liable, of course. But I’ll admit my sympathy factor for the three young men is continuing to approach zero.

The San Diego Zoo (or as it is usually referred to arounf here, "The World Famous San Diego Zoo ) is going to raise its fences as well. I believe they were lower than the recommended height, which is surprising.

I was there a few weeks ago and noted, with amusement, the “These animals bite” sign outside the tiger enclosure. These are the same signs that are outside the snapping turtle and meerkat exhibits as well. Perhaps this is the problem
I suggested to my husband that a sign stating “These animals will rip your face off if given half a chance,” might be more appropriate.

"…and in today’s news: for the third time this year, a mob informant, apparently overcome by an attack of deep depression or anxiety regarding the upcoming trial at which he was to give testimony, has committed suicide by covering his head with A-1 steak sauce and sticking it through The Tiger Hole at the zoo. The security cameras once again failed to capture the event, but a suicide note was found at the scene, taped next to the hole. Its wording was very similar to the notes found at the earlier two incidents, leading police to warn of a possible wave of copycat suicides.

…And now, we turn to our weatherman for a look at the radar…"

My view is that there are a good many pathetic human scum on this Earth, who if they choose to go out and deliberately try to physically hurt and cause extreme distress to an animal who cant understand whats going on then they totally deserve what happened to them.

Unfortunately there aren’t that many tigers left.

But it was the Tiger who would have otherwise probably been quite happy where it was who had its life sacrificed.

It wasn’t the Tigers fault that maybe the walls etc. weren’t high enough,it wasn’t the Tigers fault that human filth started persecuting it but the innocent animal paid the supreme price.

While some others are going to get a cash payout, interviews, celebrity and all the rest of the circus.

I really, really hope that they come to England to be interviewed.
I might just take the day off to see them.

That’s my feeling as well. Yes, it is sad and unfortunate that the 17 year old was the one to pay the ultimate price as it seems he was not the instigator.
I think the others should be charged with something, even if they get a payout from a lawsuit they should still take a lot of the blame. Also the oldest one committed an illegal act by providing alcohol to minors.

Sure the zoo was at fault for not having a high enough wall but apparently a few other zoos do not have high enough walls and this incident only came about when the animal was taunted. The tigers all stayed put for quite some time even though they had the ability to get out, same goes for the other zoos. Had no one ever taunted the cats we might never have learned they could escape.
