Yes, I know why they do this. I just wish they’d admit it and announce it well before boarding, rather than suddenly springing it on people in line while treating it like a “FREE” “service” that they “offer.”
Friend is back with no further incidents but would rather put it behind him and I’m not pressing for more info. I do want to add/clarify something though…
I’m not sure if the plan had moved or not yet but friend said he ended up on the tarmac waiting for his bag that he had checked at the gate when they said that the bins were now full. Finding his particular bag would have taken quite a bit of time it seems.
From that point on everyone was very nice to him and, it seemed to him, trying to make up for a situation that was not totally his fault.
