ESPN's Collage Gameday and Offensive Signage

Today, of course, is a tough one. South Carolina vs. Georgia. Whole lotta “Cock” signs in the crowd. But that is not what this thread is about…

I saw this gem… ONCE.

      P**E**NIS
 PENI**S**
         **P**ENIS
  VAGI**N**A

Did the Hemingway who came up with this choose to deny the viewing public and withdrawl his/her opus, or did someone from ESPN go out and strongarm the clown? Or maybe somebody from the school?

What happens in cases like this? And, really? Does anybody find this offensive?

Moved to the Game Room.

While you’re movin’ stuff, can you fix it so the bolded letters line up vertically, like the sign I saw.

My Kung-Fu is weak.

Or don’t bother. This isn’t going to go anywhere…

I do not understand anything in the OP, except that sports is involved somehow. I’m guessing football.

It is common for fans to try to get themselves on TV during an ESPN broadcast by making signs with some phrase that uses the letters E-S-P-N, and highlighting those letters. This particular attempt was vulgar, and likely embarrassed/enraged the network people.

Also, South Carolina’s mascot is the Gamecocks, often shortened to “Cocks”.

The space behind the Gameday set is access-restricted. It is not just come and go as you please. The Gameday folks are actually pretty restrictive about signs, and will confiscate not only vulgar ones, but ones that could be offensive in just about any way (other than plain old football trash talk).

Of course, college students are blessed with a great deal of ingenuity when it comes to getting penis jokes publicized, so, as the OP noticed, they do occasionally get by. I am sure that the one mentioned did not last long.
