Essential 80's tunes

Okay, so I just got this CD burner, right? And I told my friend, who is entranced with the 80’s that I’d burn him a mix tape of 80’s songs.

Problem is, I don’t know what to burn him. What I’m looking for are songs that are quintessential 80’s, with a high cheeze factor.

Here are some examples:

“We’re Not Gonna Take It” Twisted Sister
“Sunglasses at Night” Corey Hart
“Mr. Roboto” Styx

Can anybody think of any songs I should include on this tape? Also, I’m thinking of adding movie quotes, such as the end of THE BREAKFAST CLUB. Any suggestions for those?

Don’t feel obligated to chime in, I’m more than able to put together a good tape by myself, but I thought, hey, everybody loves the 80’s.

“You Spin Me” - Dead or Alive
“I Ran” - Flock of Seagulls
“867-5309/Jenny” - Tommy Tutone
“Hungry Like the Wolf” - Duran Duran
“Major Tom” - Peter Schilling

And me with this huge list that I’d made in preparation for a huge expenditure of time with Morpheus with plans to make some 80’s CDs for myself…

Blondie needs to be in there. Heart of Glass, Rapture, and The Tide is High.

Aldo Nova, Fantasy

Billy Idol, of course. White Wedding and Rebel Yell.

Duran Duran need a prominent place. Rio, Hungry Like The Wolf, and Say A Prayer.

Bonnie Tyler, Total Eclipse of the Heart (Turn around, Bright Eyes…)

Genesis, Genesis, Genesis!

David Lee Roth (with or without Van Halen). You need Just A Gigolo.

Madonna. Sine qua non for the 80’s. Early, early Madonna…Borderline, Like a Virgin, Material Girl.

Don’t know if I saw the Go-Go’s in this thread yet… We Got the Beat, Our Lips Are Sealed.

I think that Jesus Jones “Right Here, Right Now” was at the tail end of the 80s.
