Before my time, but still an influence. I still remember the “swimming nuns” sequence from “History of the World, Part 1.”
Dead at 91. She made synchronized swimming into popular entertainment. I was never all that thrilled with her movies, but she was iconic.
Hah! Beat you by 35 seconds or so.

I searched Cafe Society, as she was an entertainer. :::dubious: at mod::
ETA: oops, that’s where we are. Retracts dubious.
She was quite a babe in Million Dollar Mermaid. I was lucky enough to grow up in the '60s, when they still showed old movies like this late at night several times a week.
“I’ve been waiting for you to arrive for a long time now, Esther. Now, you know I never wore women’s clothing!”
“No, you never did, Jeff. And you never used lube, either.”
For decades she alone has stood between the world and her stepson, Lorenzo Lamas, keeping his evil at bay. Who will protect us now?

“It’s a wrestling picture! With Wallace Beery!”
I love her. Anyone else read her autobiography? She put up with a lot from Fernando Lamas.
Esther Williams makes her final splash at 91.
The Death Pool judges scored her dive as a 9.
But not from Johnny Weissmuller!
My best childhood times were spent watching old movies on TV before cable and you had to wait for your favorites to come around again. The plots of Esther Williams movies weren’t groundbreaking, but by golly they were fun to watch.
She was unique. Not many actors can build a huge career from a swimming pool. It worked for Ethel.
R.I.P.
Out of the water she ain’t much, but wet she’s a star.
She was probably my mom’s favorite actress.
Elapsed time: ~2 min. That’s pretty impressive.
… as is the picture of Ms. Williams from Pagan Love Song shown in her NYT obituary. Oh, Esther, if only you were 50 years younger and still alive!
Was she protecting us from European Casual Pouch?
Warning Pop-up video.
Would you settle for only one of them?
Hmm, which one?
