I’ve been wearing glasses since the third grade. I was the first kid to get them in my class. I’ve never really thought about the physical effect they’ve had on me until recently. I had a headache and took off my glasses to rub my temples. As I did, I noticed that all the years of wearing glasses and growing into them has left grooves in my skull where the “arms” of the frames run along my head. It sort of creeps me out. A thousand years from now, a forensic specialist might show my skull to the students and point out the grooves, “See, back then they had to hang metal and plastic gadgets from their ears and nose to see better instead of just genetically manipulating their children to have proper vision. What a bunch of rubes.”
Anybody else “disfigured” by their glasses or other accoutrements?
I’ve been wearing glasses for 40 years. I’ve avoided having the indentations in the sides of my skull because for years I’ve been getting frames where the arms pivot outward, on springs. That seems to do the trick. They don’t press to your head, they sit there, like they’re supposed to.
