How many dopers out there have glasses? Braces? Both? I’ve got both.
I’m mildly short sighted so have a pair of glasses to read lecture overheads and other faraway things.
No braces, but I was always jealous of people who had those colourful elastics - one girl had glow-in-the-dark elastics on her braces.
both.
wow… the egyptian jackal-headed god of the dead has glasses and braces? ooh…
d&r
Glasses - yup. Got 'em on now.
Braces - had 'em. Did no good - teeth moved back to original positions.
Oh, ha-ha.
Do contacts count? I’ve got those.
Glasses here. No braces. Never had 'em. But only because I never had any actual problems with my teeth like an overbite or underbite. My teeth are a little crowded, but that doesn’t cause a problem. I’ve charmed many a man with my dazzling smile, crowded teeth and all.
I’ve worn glasses since I was seven years old. I’ve tried contacts, but I just can’t do the touching-my-eyeball thing. Gaaaaaack. Everyone I’m related to wears glasses, except my kids. My eye doctor agrees with me though, that they’re doomed. They’ll wear them someday, no doubt. The eye doctor suggested that we start getting their eyes checked early, based on our history. The Dianasaur had her first appointment yesterday, and right now, her eyes are fine.
My teeth are a little crowded, and not exactly in perfect position, but everyone (including those who have/have had braces) tells me that they are perfect and in no need for braces or surgery. Everyone that is, until I went to a DDS to get my first dental cleaning in two years, and to check my wisdom teeth. Now that guy wants to take out my teeth(not the wisdom teeth, they are A-ok, still under my gums but in the right position to appear), and put me braces. No way!!!
Glasses for driving and watching TV/movies. Don’t want contacts.
Reading glasses. Don’t need them for anything but reading.
I’m so near-sighted that it starts getting fuzzy halfway down my arm. And my dentist says I should have braces, but my teeth are pretty much straight, just my bottom teeth lean… unnaturally, but you couldn’t tell by looking at them (unless you are a dentist). It doesn’t affect me at all, and if I wanted to get them corrected, I’d lose my strong chin (and I’ll be damned If I’ll let that happen!)
Glasses, definitely. I can’t see a thing without 'em. I’ve had since I was about 12, and went through a period of about 3 years where I never wore them because I hated the way they looked on me (from about 19-22). My eyes got much, much worse because of it, and now I can’t see at all without them, and get horrid headaches if I don’t wear them. I guess I learned my lesson!
As far as braces, never had them, never been told I needed them.
Glasses. For driving. I need all the help I can get.
I’ve worn glasses since I was 8. Blind as a bat without them. So bad in fact, as a kid, I insisted on wearing them to bed. That way, I didn’t have to worry about seeing when I got up.
Glasses since I was eight years old, contacts since I was 29.
I’ve worn glasses/contacts since I was 14 and I never leave home without 'em. I wear my contacts most of the time, which keeps the glasses in my good graces.
I had braces in high school and remarkably, my teeth haven’t shifted much since then. My optometrist (without prior consent, incidentally) installed a tiny wire behind my front four teeth on the bottom. It keeps the entire bottom row from moving significantly, and somehow works its magic on the top row as well. Though it took some getting used to at first (it sits right where the tip of my tongue rests) I’m so happy I have it.
Does anyone else have one of these, or encountered them in a special someone’s mouth? I’m curious to see if it’s something that’s still done… I believe it was relatively new 6 or so years ago.
Not just glasses: transitional lenses.
Had braces.
While we’re at it, had orthopedic shoes and now wear arch supports (I’d wear them in the shower if I could figure out how).
Been known to wear braces with a suit.
So now you know the depths of my depravity. Updates as events warrant.

Just glasses, since 7. No interest in contacts, nor the laser stuff.
No braces, either, although I wish I did have the money for 'em, as my front teeth are very crooked (I have what’s called a “crossbite”; one upper front tooth is in front of my lower set, one behind.
Make that my orthodontist. I never let my optometrist near my hardware, dental or otherwise.
I alternate glasses and contacts.
I’ve had braces since I was twelve. I’m 18 now. I know I’ll probably be wearing them at least another year.
