Ethernet Port on Laptop Suddenly Broke?

I got a new sager laptop not too long ago. I mainly use it wired connecting to router with an ethernet cable. Sometimes i would use wifi but i prefer wired b/c its faster and reliable. I just took a look and my laptop ethernet port, theres a piece thats broken. I have no clue how this happened as i didnt bang the laptop or anything to it. I just took a look and one piece of it came out. Put ethernet cable into it and it doesn’t work anymore. Does anyone know how this could happen?
I assume no way to fix the ethernet port and only way to way to use wired internet is to buy one of those usb to ethernet plug ins? Im very upset b/c this laptop is brand new and i spent a good amount of money on it. I have no clue how the ethernet port broke.

Are you sure that a piece from the jack broke and not the clip from the cable? I’ve heard of pins in the jack being bent, but not an actual piece breaking off. If it’s the actual jack you’re talking about, I doubt it can be replaced since it’s attached to the motherboard. If it’s a new laptop and still under warranty, you should see if you could get it replaced.

Was the ethernet working before you looked at the port? Specifically, what is broken? Does the cable properly click into the port or does it not stay in? If you hold the cable in the port, does the internet work? Some laptop ethernet ports have small LED lights which indicate connection and activity. Do those light up? What does the cable connect to? A router? Do the lights on the router light up when you plug in the cable?

Maybe there was a weak spot in the plastic which eventually gave way and now the cable can’t connect to the wires.

The thing that is broken, its attached to the ethernet port 100 percent. Thats how the ethernet port looks and thus it got broken… i have no idea how this happened. The ethernet cable is clear… also used this ethernet cable on another laptop and it works perfectly fine.
Basically i have no idea how it suddenly broke the ethernet port in the laptop. One thing i will say though is this ethernet port for a laptop is not like a normal laptop or a desktop. Basicallly when u put an ethernet cable into the port theres like a small thing that blocks it from coming in. Thus regular ethernet ports on laptop, desktop etc, u just plug it in , theres no obstruction. This laptop theres like a little flap/door to it… does that make sense? So each time i put it in and out, it doesn’t go very easily like i do with regular ethernet ports. Even if thats the case, i have no idea how this happened. Didn’t drop laptop or anything or banged anything.
Right now i can’t really plug an ethernet cable into it fully because the piece of the ethernet port that isn’t broken off like the one i have here on the desk, its still attached to the laptop. Does that make sense? Ethernet cable connects from router to laptop.

Although I haven’t seen a port like that, I could imagine a laptop having a port with a little door that flips down to keep dust and stuff out. Perhaps the spring mechanism broke or came apart and now it can’t flip up.

I looked at a few Sager laptops but I didn’t see any with a door over the port. Which model is yours? Here’s one with a normal port without any covering:

If it really is new, call the company about a warranty repair.

That port as it looks had a removable cover, not a push in ‘door’ You should have removed it entirely if you wanted to use it, not force the cable in.

From only the image I believe you broke it by not knowing this and forcing the cable in w/o removing it.
