Etzy confusion

I figure this goes here, since it’s about crafts (or something like it)

I’ve been browsing Etzy recently, and the same stuff keeps popping up in a lot of peoples work.

First, this particular octopus, in different metals and a [=tags&includes=title"]cameo](This item is unavailable - Etsy[) one.
Then this skeleton cameo.

Where are people getting this stuff? Is there an american craft supply I don’t know about? If so, can anyone link to it? It’s seems to be mostly kitschy stempunk/gothic victorian stuff, for some reason.

They’re getting their jewelery making supplies from the same source, or their suppliers are getting them from their sources (it’s [del]turtles[/del] octopuses all the way down.)

And yes, there are lots of craft supply sources, many of them online. alibaba, a popular site for cheap Chinese made crap, has dozens of metal octopuses. Why? I dunno. I suppose it’s a popular thing in steampunk. But you can buy them by the case, take 'em off the chains if you like, and use them to make stuff you sell on etsy.

I don’t have the answer, but a friend of mine was just wearing one of those metal octopi the other day.

I’m guessing it’s a popular casting for the steampunk / Victorian stuff because it looks vaguely Cthulhu-esque.
