0-0 after 40 minutes. Bit tense.
Why do they put in the crowd noises?
As an aside, way too much passing, its getting predictable, pretty sure PSG would have scored had they taken the shot earlier.
Posted about it in the “EPL” thread as that’s where UCL talk had been. Pretty even game I thought. I was going to say PSG probably had better chances, but apparently it was 1.4 vs 1.6 xG based on fivethirtyeight’s model.
Bayern has been ridiculous since Flick took over. Not giving up many quality chances, pounding the teams they should. The team’s not that old (although they need to get some understudies for Lewandowski, Muller, and Neuer in the next year or two), they should be challenging for another treble again next year.
PSG, I think, need a creative force in the midfield. And probably stronger competition week to week.
Well done Bayern, by far the best team in the competition this year and nothing is better in football than seeing Neymar lose.
What a waste of money, what a showboating bell-end that man is. All the talent in the world but all he will be remembered for is falling over and screaming, beating up the unfortunate and irrelevant other teams in the French top divisions and flouncing out of Barcelona because he wanted the cash and couldn’t handle having to share some limelight.
Now now, getting the hell out of the dumpster fire that is Barca is probably the one smart thing he has done recently
ETA: @Novelty_Bobble it’s a pity you have stopped watching cricket still good to have you here.
Only in hindsight I’d suggest. I don’t think any of us believe he saw that coming, nor that it was his main motivation.
I certainly haven’t stopped watching but my working pattern has changed so that I can’t necessarily give it the attention it deserves. I have been neglecting the cricket thread as a result which shames me deeply. There is also the possibility that last year’s England performances emptied my tank of sensible comments and I need to top it up again.
However, I do have a week off starting this Friday and can devote some time to the 20-20 matches at least so…if remarkable things happen, I’ll probably start remarking on them again!
I’m not blaming any player for moving due to that much cash. Also Neymar’s assist in the semis was sublime. PSG’s first UCL final. If they can ever win, he’d be a legend. And he gets to live in Paris. Not bad.
Also, Davies is the first MLS product to start and win a UCL. Great for the league and Canada.
Surely a dumpster fire, but I’ll wonder what would have happened had Neymar stayed. Wouldn’t have wasted $350M on Dembele, Coutinho, and Griezmann. Everything else being equal (yeah yeah), I think they beat Liverpool and go on to win the CL last year. But yes, Barca’s problems are way way deeper than the players. So maybe it takes another couple years for the rot to be exposed, in the best case scenario.
If Neymar stays at PSG for the rest of his European career, but never wins the CL, what’s his legacy? I feel like, say, Robben, would be remembered as a much better player, but I don’t know if that’s fair.
IIRC, before this year, PSG had never reached the Semifinals of the UCL. So if Neymar continues to lead PSG to semis and finals of the UCL, he may be seen more positively than others who fall short as the main player.
Messi was never going to be happy to be replaced as numbero uno and would resist.
Which is why Messi has been trying to get Neymar to come back ever since?
No. Messi has been trying to get Neymar to play as a second Forward. Neymar wants to play as the No 10, which Messi won’t accept.
Neymar tried to force an exit from PSG to go back to Barcelona last summer.
Messi sent Neymar texts saying that Neymar is his heir and please come back.
Sounds pretty toxic.
