European Cup Final

That’s exactly what I’m going to do. Lucky my ass. Speaking of my ass: bite it.

How about we agree that Chelsea won and the other teams lost and now lots of people are whining and complaining because, oh Mother, something didn’t go the way it “should” have gone.

Meh, I’m not complaining because Spurs misses out on CL football. That’s reward enough even for someone as revolting as John Terry winning a medal. Although maybe not for Ashley Cole… I’ll have to deliberate some more.

But Chelsea were pretty shit both against Barca and Bayern. They won and nobody can take that away from them. But they weren’t better in any of those matches.

Actually, let’s ride with it. Chelsea were the best team in Europe. Roman should keep that wallet shut and ride the same squad into next season. I’m sure they’ll do better than sixth in the league this time around…

I guess you could say that Chelsea won the championship. But they didn’t win the game. PK shootouts are recorded as draws.

I hate PK shootouts.

They can’t and their attempts to do the opposite this year led to their undoing, giving them 6th in the league and first time of not being in the Champions League for a long time (though they are in now, because they won it).

Their team is old. Their best players are fading out, Drogba is out already. The previous manager Andres Villas Boas was given a remit of rebuilding the team to compete, and it being the owner Abranmovich way, gets sacked for attempting it. He held back their best players and tried to get a team for the future. This lost him the Champions league spot, and ironically it was only his short term replacement Roberto Di Matteo playing all the old players again that got them the FA Cup and Champions League too. Their problem is still there next year, only more so…

The great irony of it all is that there’s a pretty good chance of Roberto Di Matteo getting sacked after winning those cups, Abranmovich, after all, did sack the previously most successful manager José Mourinho in effect for giving him a’funny look’.

Smid’s is a good assessment.

I applaud Chelsea for their achievements, it hasn’t been pretty but, to the victor the spoils.
Abramovich, however, will never be satisfied until Chelsea win the champions league whilst playing like Barcelona. The style and tactics that Matteo used may have been effective but they’ll win him no fans in the boardroom. I suspect he will be out just as soon as the glamour fades and Guardiola can be tempted. (though I really hope he can resist that temptation)

I felt immensely sorry for AVB, it was almost a Clough/Leeds moment and I fail to see how you can expect him to dismantle and re-build a team without a major dip in form.

Is it as simple as Abramovich being so rich that he thinks anything is up for sale, in exactly the size, shape, style and quantity he demands? And if he doesn’t get what he wants then…boom…out the door. (Do Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse have insider knowledge?)

Chelsea are Champions of Europe, and they deserve it. Deal with it.

Are we still at this?

Chelsea were lucky; end off! (see how that can work both ways?).
