I had to do a couple searches to find out what is going on. The one thread I found was way to much info for me to digest tonight so I’m not even going to go there right now.

Actually, I’m also setting up a tent in the camp of those who wonder why this is in the Cafe; however, I’m also wondering if, perhaps, Euty requested that it be kept nice and small in the Cafe instead of turning into a giant train wreck elsewhere.
Not saying that it won’t anyway, of course. Has anyone actually e-mailed Ed or Euty to ask them why it was posted solely in the Cafe?
All that said, I, too, am sorry to see Eutychus temporarily step aside as a moderator. I agree with Guin in hoping bandages and hugs are passed out quickly.
Every action has a consequence. It’s no more a threat than me saying “Picking on Scotticher on this Board, at Dopefests, or over in Livejournal doesn’t exactly sound like a good strategy.”
Like any dispute in a community such as this, there have been, are, and will be continued consequences.
I think the “owners/administrators” of this Board know Cheri well enough to at least understand and sympathize with her feelings on the matter, even if they are not able to or cannot resolve this issue in a manner which is completely agreable to her.
Handling Board disputes on a Board the size and type as the SDMB is something I’m writing about now in a research paper on the dynamics of message boards. And it has to be extremely difficult for all people involved, and I can imagine that quite a number of people on the Staff, regardless of which “side” they are on, have had their Summer ruined a bit by this.
I think, IMO, the SDMB is stuck in an inopportune place: too large to be tight-knit, such that a large portion of the community is not aware of all the details of both sides of any dispute - and too small to be a faceless, inpersonal entity that can be easily emotionally written off, such as “Microsoft”. And therefore, it’s hard to make decisions like this - the large faceless entity makes decisions based strictly on objective reasons, whereas the small, very tight-knit Board makes decisions subjectively. But the SDMB is sort of stuck in the middle - objective decisions have major subjective impacts.
That having been said, I imagine that the long and good history of Eutychus with this Board, his many substantial contributions, his continued involvement in the many circles of friends, and his overall fine character make him a strong asset to the Board and the community, and I’m sure everyone wants him to stay on. I certainly hope that after a break for people on both sides to reflect further, he will return.
Still a newbie, but I found a great heart hidden behind all of Euty’s postings. He truly seems to have an incredibly kind, sweet and level-headed spirit. I, as will others, will miss him greatly.
I hope, that if this is indeed just a break, it will bring the peace and rest you need and bring you back to us better than ever. If not, godspeed my friend. Take care of yourself and be well. You are honorable and a beacon among men.

I’m not so sure that “being placed on hiatus” is the same as stepping aside. Maybe that’s just a quibble, maybe not.
It’s hard to find a moderator who is, was, and shall be as universally respected as Euty.
Actually, I agree. “Stepping aside” infers a voluntary leave; until we find out what exactly happened, you’re right in calling my phrasing into question.
It’s all from experience reading “comings and goings” emails from Human Resources. You can look for certain phrases that’ll indicate whether they booted the guy out the door or he just found a new job. 
The administration of this board never fails to amaze me.

Best wishes to euty. Some people are not easily replaced in a realm such as this, and I think he’s proof of that.
I was already of the mindset that something was not right in the world after reading the OP…seeing Cheri fired up is a validation of that. When some of your most respected posters smell smoke, there is likely fire somewhere.

I always liked Euty. He made rational decisions and posts that didn’t make me want to break something.
