Even the stupid is bigger in Texas

If CAIR wants to improve the image of Islam in Texas they might do better to rename their faith Highschoolfootballjesusgunslam.

The ad campaigns write themselves.

[li]Battle of Badr: The Alamo of 624 CE.[/li]
[li]Islam: The second largest world religion that reveres Jesus as a prophet[/li][/ul]

It’ll be the Lone Star and Crescent State in no time.

Remember the Al-Amo!

And “Perhaps a Little Too Personal” Jesus looks like this.

If they wanted him to blend in, maybe they shouldn’t have painted him orange.

Belton, TX, about halfway between Waco and Austin. Not far from Fort Hood, if that’s a more useful reference. Population ~18,000. I’ll leave you to judge its hick factor for yourself…but they did send Molly White to represent them.

The boys love Davy Crockett
Who died at the Alamo
I heard him say when they attacked,
“I knew this room would kill the act!”

Ah. Thank you. I’ve been to Belton a few times, having lived for several years in Austin. (Hook 'em.) Anyway, yeah, that explains a lot.

Even better, Islam affirms that Jesus is the Messiah.

Some of us here remember Ivans and Richard.

This deserved more love.

But not God nor the son of God. That makes the two faiths irreconcilable.

(Jews expect the Messiah to be a man, BTW, and not the “Son of God” in any but a titular sense; it’s a title their ancient kings used, it just means “chosen of God” or “favored of God.”)

I’m sorry, guys, you can argue all you want that the majority of Texans are good people, but the majority of Texans keep electing people like her. The city councils, the county commissioners, the state legislature, and the governor’s chair are filled with people like her.

Ivins and Richards, surely?

Whereas the rest of the country is busy electing morally upright geniuses?

I’m not delighted with most of my elected city, county, state, and federal representatives here in Ohio, but on the whole, they’re a hell of a lot better than if I was living in a similar middling-size city in Texas.

When I lived in Massachusetts, they were absolutely 100% better. In Virginia, maybe 20% better. In Denver, 100% better. In Ontario, 150% better. In Missouri, maybe 5% better.

And there is a reason that after living in Victoria, and in a Dallas suburb in the mid and late 70s, that I have never, ever, ever returned to Texas. You want to get rid of the impression that Texas elects assholes? Fine with me; there’s a simple solution. Stop electing assholes.

I have only been in Texas for a few years after living many many years in Southern California. The political differences I see between the two are superficial; the deep underlying similarities are that most government is run by either crooks or incompetents. Sometimes (LA City Council, I’m looking at you) both. I’m glad to hear that there may be better places. However, I don’t know exactly what you mean by “better” so I remain, as ever, cynical.

Texas is probably also know for great typers.

Yup, and we’re even known for it, two.

I was surprised to learn there was an Ultra-Orthodox Jewish, well, colony in El Paso that had been there for a very long time. I figured that what with the Injuns and Mexicans, they figured the Jews were no threat and just overlooked hassling them.
