Ever been banned for trolling

Sorry misread the title as I’ve been banned for trolling and just came in to say about time.

But I guess it’s not appropriate now, or maybe that should be yet as the OP hints.

Never been banned for trolling, but was banned from two boards I hadn’t even posted to yet. I assume I hadn’t read the small print fully, and was meant to message the mods or something to prove I was a real person and not a spammer.

Years ago I was banned from a board for asking about a board rule.

In my experience that’s standard practice for many boards. Question the rules or a mod’s decision and you’re out, it’s as simple as that. This board is exceptional in the leeway it gives for criticism, and before the rules were changed it must have been one of the few boards on the net that allowed its staff to be maligned and vilified from pillar to post.

I’ve never been banned from a board for trolling. I suppose the only time I’d be tempted to troll would be one one of those lunatic far-right boards, but then again common sense would prevent me. Like arguing religion with a Jehovah’s Witness or a Mormon missionary it’s practically the definition of wasting one’s time.

I was banned from the anti-vax forums at Mothering for attempting to argue that vaccines are a good idea. Not all trolling is always bad.

That position is anything but indefensible.

Arguing a pro-vax position on a mothering board may not count as trolling in the sense that the rest of the world understands it, but having seen those mothering boards I wouldn’t be surprised if the “Reason for Banning” that LavenderBlue was given was written down as “Trolling” - with the Mommyboarders classifying “Anything that doesn’t toe the hippy-dippy-anti-vax-earth-mother line” as such.

On another anti-vax board (where I’ve never posted), they actually compared themselves to members of a religion who don’t want to be insulted by the expression of atheist views.

I got banned form a forum that i ended up moderating… someone took something the wrong way.

A chat room that i dabbled with i couldnt help but play devils advocate and challenge people beyond just giving pat answers, didn’t manage to get banned.

Not banned, but I’ve received five warnings from the shitheads that moderate two forums.

Warning #1 was for posting in a thread about Obama’s appearance on Mythbusters, joking that they should do the Birther myth.
Warning #2 I can’t remember, but it was talking about some TV show that had some relationship with politics.
Warning #3 was when I posted in their “saying goodbye” thread, stating that the moderation was why I was leaving the forum.

Warning #4 was because a forum’s rule against insulting other members was arbitrarily extended to include calling the legal team for a particular company “jerks”.
Warning #5 was because the same rule against insulting other members was arbitrarily extended to include calling a fictional monster “an ugly bastard”. No, I’m not kidding.

Got banned from a remote viewing board based in Hawaii, something I got involved in due to a thread or two on the subject on this board back in 2001 or so(you can probably search it out if you want to bother), and found out that newbies are expected to already be believers. I got called a “troll” for asking questions-they banned me, removed all my posts…but left all the nasty responses to my questions intact.

You troll parenting boards by slowly becoming the most obnoxiously new age parent you possibly can. “Well, I could never feed my child corn sugar. I make all their fruit snacks from scratch using vegetarian gelatin, agave crystals and fruit jam made from my personal raspberry and blueberry bushes. Yes, I have to get up at 4 if I want their lunches ready but since I would never force them through the indignity of schooling away from home, we can make it work. Other parents may not have time for it, but I wouldn’t feel like a real mom if I didn’t sacrifice a little.”

Obviously, that’s painfully unsubtle but you get the idea.

This is so evil. If there’s anything that freaks out new moms it’s that they’re not doing enough for their babies. I would add that I read to LO for 2 hours a day, keep a spotless home during her many 2 hour long naps, practice tummy time constantly, never, ever set her down, and always have a bra on and dinner ready when DH gets home. Oh, and I’ve lost all the baby weight, plus 10 pounds- it’s so easy when you’re breastfeeding!!!

I “troll” couple boards (NOT here). Just got banned from a board. I was there 2 weeks, they could’ve banned me immediately if they had just traced the e-mail addy. (I assume that’s how they did it)

Yeah, that was real, real funny how you came to our forum pretending to be a baby butch trying to find community and started a bunch of ridiculous threads just to jerk our members around for your own deranged amusement.

What kind of a person does this? And then, basically brags about it. We actually do have a lot of folks who use our forum as a way to figure out where they fit in the LGBT Spectrum. We are a helpful, supportive community and you took one of the biggest dumps I’ve ever seen on the internet. Does that give you a hardon? Make you feel gleeful and proud?

You have to be a sociopath. People will argue on the internet and claim to be things they’re not, claim to have cancer, etc. But this thing you did to us was clearly calculated just to fuck with people for your own amusement. We know who you are, because, well, you’re just not that clever. Arrogant and mean-spirited, but not all that smart.

And also, not the father of home birthed twins. And not a woman, and not really anything but a big piece of dog shit stuck on the sole of humanity.

I don’t really see the point of trolling. Seems like too much of a waste of time. Poking at one person once in awhile because they bug you is one thing but to go to a whole board with the plan of annoying the whole board for funsies just doesn’t appeal to me.

I was banned once because of a troll. The admin is a passionate lady and banned me in a fit of anger over some silly and baseless allegations. But she was/is a friend and it was all eventually sorted out.

I’ve been a bit stupid at times (even here once or twice, which is unbearably shameful), but never deliberately.

Not on a forum, but back in the drinking days I woke up one morning to find myself banned from my favorite TF2 server for 24 hours. Still don’t remember what I said.
