I’ve been to Washington,D.C. once. I would love to go again.
4 years ago, during a short stint as a courier, I shuttled items between Omaha and the state capital of Lincoln every day.
I’ve also been to Des Moines, Topeka, Denver, Cheyenne, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, Phoenix; and have passed through Richmond and Charlston, W. Va.
I also have beltwayed-around Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis.
No. My nation’s capital is 7,777 kilometers (4833 miles) away. I think the only people further from their capital are some Russians. Well, them and every one in my state living west of me which is more then half of my state’s population. I’d love to go but I don’t really want to fly right now.
I’ve been to Washington, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Santiago, London, Paris, and Beijing. That enough capitals? C’mon surely there’s better traveled Dopers out there than me!
PS – My personal favorite: London. Not sure why, just is …
Lived in Boston for a while, been to DC on school trips and to see theater sometimes.
As for my state now, yes, I’ve been to Albany on several occasions and lived to tell about it. The capitol building is fittingly impressive and there’s also a good-sized gay neighborhood, which surprised me. But the less said about The Mall the better.
Took the train to Chicago once and spent several hours just outside Albany too. Neither is advisable.
I have been to Washington, D.C. many times. I’m sure I was there a lot as when I was young (ages 2-6, roughly) and lived in the area. I have only a few memories of those various trips, of course. I have also been there maybe 3 or 4 times since- mostly they’ve been the basic weekend sightseeing kind of visits. One was to attend my grandfather’s induction into the National Academy of Sciences.
I’ve also got maybe 30 or so state capitals under my belt. That’s an estimate because I can’t actually remember for some, and I don’t feel like trying to name each one. The greateast frequecy of visits would be to Honolulu and Columbus, I suppose, because I have lived near each.
Foreign capitals: London, Paris, Mexico City, Caracas, Wellington, Cape Town and Johannesburg (I think each is home to some branch of the government but correct me if I’m wrong; also, Johannesburg was the ariport only, twice), and Lusaka, Zambia.
I go to Ottawa every year for the Canada Day celebrations. Party on Parliament Hill!
It’s only two hours away, but I don’t visit often, since the city isn’t all that big and I feel like I’ve seen most of what it has to offer. Only two things left on my “To do in Ottawa” list: Winterlude, and the tulips. I’ve skated on the Rideau canal (probably the only time I’ve enjoyed freezing my feet off), but I’ve never been to any of the Winterlude festivities. And I’m going to try and make it to the tulip festival this spring, because in three years of trying, I have not yet managed to get there on time. It’s usually during the same weeks as my exams, so it’s difficult to arrange.
I was just in DC a couple hours ago, not a difficult feat since I live only a few miles outside of it. And since I’m such a travel geek and keep track of these things, I know I have been in 39 of the 50 state caps.
My husband and I have plans to get out to Washington D.C. one of these days. I’ve never been, but have always wanted to go.
As for the state capital, Sacramento, I really have no desire to go. It’s a long, long drive, and besides, it should be down here in Los Angeles, where it belongs.
But I have been to London, Paris, Rome, and Athens.
I’ve been to my nation’s capital, Canberra, twice. I stayed there for a week in 1988 on a class trip and found it fascinating. I enjoyed visitng Parliment House, the War Memorial, Telecom Tower (I think it’s now Telstra Tower?) and the High Court.
I’ve been to my state capital Melbourne on many occasions.
Was based in London for a time, visited both Canberra and Pt Moresby while living in those countries. I haven’t seen Wellington yet but plan to go sometime this year. Also made the trip to many other capitals of countries while visiting/touring.
I was in DC once, and spend about 3 days going through the Smithsonian buildings. It was a very memorable experience and I would love to do it again. I was also in Canada’s capital, Ottawa, once as well. It didn’t hold the same pizzaz for me though.
