Ever get insulted by a celebrity?

Timothy Leary once told me I was full of shit. Probably because I had said as much to him moments earlier, although I said it in a much more polite manner after listening to him give an utterly absurd lecture.

But my favorite story is definitely about ** Bill Buckner**. Remember him? The Red Sox first baseman that let a critical ground ball go through his legs during the '86 World Series with the Mets.

In April of that year I had interviewed him in the Fenway dugout before a game, and he was very rude. He actually said to a teammate nearby, “I was hoping to give a reporter some shit today.” At that time I was about 15, an apprentice reporter for a high school radio station.

So a few months later he pretty much blew the series for the Sox on a play a Little League kid could have completed. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Sometimes there is justice in the world.
