Ever had Pickles on your Pizza?

My wife puts pickles in her tuna, she has been known to throw some bacon in it as well

I’ve never had pickles on my pizza but after reading this thread the idea is growing on me. I’m going to have to try it out the next time I make a pie.

The thought has never occured to me. I will have to try it out next time. The cheeseburger pizza sounds like a good candidate. My favorite is sausage and onion, though. Lots of onion, and not to much anise in the sausage.

When I lived south of Moscow, the student canteen used to have something approximating to mini-pizzas.

Like so many foodstuffs in Russia, these looked (and tasted) as though someone whose third cousin’s sister’s friend had been to the West and come back with a glowing description of pizza. A poorly translated version of this description had then clearly been passed all the way back up the chain to the person responsible for cooking in the student canteen.

These little numbers were made, not of pizza dough, but of the slightly sweet dough used to make Russian pirozhki. They had plastic cheese on top. Sometimes there would be a slice of tomato. Occasionally there was something approximately a meatball.

And they had the all important Russian ingredients: dill and pickle slices. Dill has no place on a pizza. But pickles. That’s a different matter.

I still hanker after those ‘pizzas’. Sometimes I dream about them. I wouldn’t kick a real pizza with pickles on it out of bed either.

Well, I have no problems with eating a vegetarian pizza, but I would not eat a pizza with pickles. Same goes for pineapple.

[…channelling Maude Flanders…] Unflavored for me!

I’m with you on that. The idea of pineapple on a pizza is more revolting for me than the idea of pickles or anchovies. Actually, I’ve been known to eat anchovy pizza and actually like it, but pineapple on pizza? No way! Blecch! And, yes, I have actually tasted it once so this isn’t a blind hatred.

Do you bake the pickles on the pizza or add them afterwards?

Me too!

Funny thing is that one of the humorous lines my family likes to say to each other is “I don’t want no pickles on my Pizza”. It came from overhearing a 4-year old say it very gruffly to his parents at a Pizza Hut about 30 years ago.

I agree!

I strongly suspect that Philo actually is an operative for the Vlassic Company and is helping create a new viral campaign in conjunction with Domino’s.

Wait.
What kind of pickle?

Sweet?

Garlicky?

and dare I add, are they kosher?

The ones on the cheeseburger pizza are.

Daniel

I’ve put sliced dill pickles on a pizza. Quite good, actually. But then, my favorite pizza is pepperoni and pineapple, so what do I know?

The ideal pickle for a pizza is a dill (the kosher-ness doesn’t really matter,) and sliced, like the kind that goes on a hamburger or sandwich. And they are put on before baking, They dry out a bit, yes, but they don’t become completely dried out husks.
