Ever had to get a refund on a Western Union M.Om?

I need some feedback from folks who have had similar experiences so i will know what I am in for.

I sent a Western Union money order as payment for an ebay auction. It was going from Springfield, VA to Pomona, NY. I mailed it on the 28th of February and it has still not arrived in NY. I have called the automated number listed on the back of the M.O. and determined that it has not yet been cashed.

The ebay seller has 100% positive feedback. I have no reason to think he is not being honest with me that the M.O. is missing in action. I am getting pretty worried that this thing is not going to show up.

I would sure appreciate anyone sharing their experiences in getting a refund on a M.O. like this.

Thanks so much,

I’ve never dealt with this on a Western Union money order, but I can tell you some general pointers from working in a bank:

  1. You may have to wait 30 days before the money order can be officially declared “lost”
  2. Depending on the amount of the money order, the bank may require you to purchase an indemnity bond. The bond is similar to an insurance policy that covers the bank should both money orders end up getting cashed.
  3. In lieu of, or perhaps in addition to an indemnity bond you may be asked to pay a stop
    payment fee.

Call you local WU ofice, they deal with this stuff every day.
