I received one sent to my personal e-mail account. I’m not going to go into the circumstances surrounding it, but will say that I did not break the law in any way, shape, or form, or threaten anyone or anything.
The sender introduced themself as “my worst nightmare” and insinuated that I may lose my job (which is completely false).
They have a Yahoo e-mail account, so I reported it to Yahoo. I currently have a Hotmail account, and am considering alerting Hotmail as well.
I’m debating whether or not I should reply to the sender, ask them never to attempt to contact me again regardless of method, and alert them to the fact their e-mail has been forwarded to the proper authorities.
Was it from someone you know? If so, contact the cops.
Do you not know who it is but you think they know you based on information in the email? You should probably contact they cops anyway.
Could it be some psycho sending random emails to someone?
Whatever the case, I wouldn’t reply to the mail. They’re probably getting off on freakling you out and ignoring them would be the worst thing you could do to them.
I wouldn’t wait for Yahoo to be very helpful if i were you. About a year ago, I received threatening e-mails from an ex-SO, along with having her post my name and some really nasty crap about me on her profile. I reported the e-mails and the profile information to yahoo, and here I sit, still waiting for them to take any action.
I was able to talk some sense to the woman after a short period of time and she removed the personal info off her profile, but the identities she created that incorporated my name (i.e: mrbusguyisachildmolester@yahoo.com) remained available after she claimed they were deleted.
well, if it’s just a random threat email, they might just be fishing to see if the account is active. I’ve received something stupid like that before. Don’t reply.
If it’s someone you know that you think actually has information about you. . .that’s just on you to deal with whatever crapola is going on.
It’s not someone I know personally, I only know OF them; they’ve never met me either. And they do have some (and can obtain additional) information about me.
My only reason for wanting to reply at all is to make it clear that if she threatens again, there will be legal action taken against her; however, I wouldn’t want my immediate reply to be viewed as egging her on. Perhaps I will wait to see if she tries again - if so, then I shall initiate my defense.
