Ever ridden in a limo? Why?

I’ve had a Town Car to the airport a time or two (cheaper than a taxi, and far less frightening than the maniac drivers of the blue vans, plus one time when a gypsy driver illegally solicited business near baggage claim.

Only time in a “real” limo was for my father-in-law’s funeral. Notg too comfortable, actually, as the car was just not quite large enough to hold the six of us.

Several times:
-on business, particulary from the airport to the hotel
-in Nassau, where anything with 4 or more wheels is a taxi
-out on the town when my sister won a contest and invited my wife and I as her guests.

Exactly twice.

First time was my mother’s cousin’s marriage because I was the ring bearer (I was nine at the time.)

The second time was for my sister’s wedding, when I was an usher/groomsman for (I was 18.)

Proms. 3 or 4
Weddings. 2 or 3
As a part of a gift to my evil ex boyfriend Walter for his birthday.
To the airport from my office.

Couple times for weddings, funerals.

And once when I was flying into Phoenix to go to Luke AFB. The taxi drivers couldn’t be arsed to go out that far, and the limo driver eagerly took the fare to my hotel.

I was tired, and so fell asleep in the back of the stretch limo, all by myself. Woke up to see a small group gathered outside the hotel, all wondering who the “celebrity” was.

I was tempted to play it up for the crowd, but was too self-conscious, so I just tipped the driver and slunk inside to check in.

No, I never have.

Once, for a funeral.

I’m an old enough codger to think that limos are a fairly recent development. Why, in my day…the only people who rode in limos were mourners, diplomats and movie stars. Now they’re full of 6 drunken teenagers on their way to the prom.

Once. About ten years ago for a friend’s birthday (5th grade). Her mom rented us one and took us downtown somewhere to eat pizza, and the only thing I remember is singing that Meredith Brooks song ‘Bitch’ really really loud and the limo driver cracking up. Then we stayed in some hotel.

It costs LESS than a cab and the drivers,
[ul]are courteous[/ul]
[ul]are on time[/ul]
[ul]help with luggage[/ul]

Whoops! That should have started with the line,

“Whenever I go to the airport (O’Hare)”

I think I woulda just kicked his ass. But maybe not…

I have been in one for various weddings and once for a “limo lunch” promotion that a local radio station was running.

Several times.

Some I can remember off the top of my head:

Took a trip to Puerto Rico with some family when I was 9 or 10. We took a limo to Newark airport from our house. I think that was the first time I was ever in one.

Prom - Wasn’t my own, it was for the school of the boy I was dating. He went to an all boy’s Catholic school, so I remember that prom being an odd one, because pretty much none of the girls knew each other.

Several weddings, 4 that I can remember. 2 friends in NJ, my own in Las Vegas, and the most recent time, my sister’s wedding in NJ this past November.

A few times in NYC. Mostly older limos and rogue drivers. We (my sister, some friends and myself) would often take the train to Penn Station and then find a limo to take us to whichever club we were hitting that night.

From home (in central NJ at the time) to Pier 88 in NYC to catch a crusie ship to Bermuda.

A couple of years ago in SF. We took the kids to the city for a day during the Christmas season to just window shop and walk around. We wanted to take the Powell-Hyde cable car line to Market St. But there’s always a huge line of tourists at that turnaround. A limo driver offered to ride us down there for a cheap fare as we were waiting, so we left it up to the boys which way they wanted to go. They chose the limo.

And another a couple of years ago. One of my cousins, as a wedding present to my husband and I, booked a weekend in a hotel in Paso Robles, as well as a winemaker’s dinner in the cellars of a winery down there. He met us there with a couple of his friends and his girlfriend. We all rode together from our hotel to the winery and back after dinner. Lovely gift.

And the few occasions that really stick out the most - a Rolls Royce limo and a Bentley limo the ex and I rode in a few times for trips to AC.

My sister went on a Make-a-Wish trip. I got to go as a guest with her and on the way home from the airport, we got to ride in a limo. Nothing special, no jacuzzi or mini-bar, but it was fun.

Good friends wedding. I was a groomsman. June 9th, Upstate NY and the limo’s a/c didn’t work. Lucky it was a white car.

I was in a limo going to and from my high school prom, to and from the cemetary during my grandfather’s funeral, and some kind of stretch truck during a trip around the Southeast in 2001. We drove from, I think, Virginia Beach to Charlotte (between concerts) in that thing; I called it “the luxury tank.” Apparently somebody stole my phrase and applied it to Hummers. In the last stages of our trip, there were only three of us in that thing, so I spent most of it stretched out on the bench instead of sitting up. That last was definitely my rock star moment.

When I was a kid, a father of somebody in Sunday school owned a limo service, took us all to the grocery store and back one day.
Grad Night in HS had a bunch of limos basically circling the parking lot so everyone could arrive like a movie star, my future wife and I waited 20 minutes to ride the Bentley.

As part of my job I go to meetings in Basle at the BIS (Bank of International Settlements). The BIS people always pick attendees up from the airport in very classy looking limousines.

I’m in a limo right now!

Just kidding…but I wish I weren’t

I’ve only been in a “real” limo once, for my dad’s funeral when I was 11. Not the tinted window variety. I was also in a Lincoln Towncar that they kept calling a limo once on a business trip.

I haven’t given up the dream yet, though.

My mother, her friend, and I once rented a limo to take us to New York City.
