I was in one once because it was part of a travel package that included a Broadway play. Six people from the same hotel. But the driver stiffed us, demanding more money or he wouldn’t take us home. Naturally somebody chipped in to keep the mood from going sour.
I was selling my car, and needed a ride home from Orange to L.A. So they gave me one in the limo.
Once when I was in a wedding, once for a batchelorette party, and twice for 30th birthday celebrations.
Hey! Check it out! Whenever I take our car (used to be our cars) in for maintenance or repairs the dealership offers to drive me (and any other inconvenienced customers) wherever I (or they) need to go – in a stretch limo.
Bodacious ride. Female driver. Usually just a few riders. Most I’ve been with was six and we had to go all over town delivering the various ones where they were headed.
Other than that, no.
I did see a limo with a hot tub one time. Tried to calculate how much that weighed.
Nashville is “et up” with limos. Hard to decide whether there are more limos than pickups. Probably pickups.
Yep. My mom used to help manage a limo company, so that’s how we got to and from the airport when we went on trips. Also, it was the cheapest option to get from college to the airport when I was dating my ex (it really wasn’t that cheap; I just had no sense of money and no one to give me a ride). The ones from the company my mom managed were stretch limos–way swanky. I honest to God thought it was normal.
'Course, Mom doesn’t work there anymore, and I’m young and still not earning what my parents make, so I don’t think I’ll see another limo anytime soon.
My dad’s funeral.
Once on business, once to and from an honorary dinner for my dad, and also, my best friend drives a limo, so I did a ride with her once, too.
A limo driver that doesn’t stock their car with liquor and daily papers should have their chauffer’s hat revoked.
Couple of times to and from the airport (140 mile round trip). More like a stretched luxury car than a full-on-limo; it was the cheapest way to get us all to and from the airport when we needed to (once for a reunion, then a few months later for the funeral the reunion anticipated).
I rode in one once, with friends, to and from my year 12 ball. It was what everyone did, except for this one millionaire girl who came with her friends in a horse-drawn cart.
Just once, at my aunt’s funeral. Used it to go from her house to the cemetary.
Never a properly stocked chaufferred limo, no.
There used to be limos for hire near the taxi stand at the airport in Las Vegas (I think after 9-11 they changed the rules where they couldn’t park there, not sure), you could rent one for $35/half hour. There was 7 of us on this particular trip, so that worked out to only $5/piece and we all rode together. Not much cost difference than a couple of cabs, just more pretentious.
And I got to pal around with some high rollers on another trip, the casinos provided limos for them anytime we went anywhere. That was a lot more fun, much more a rolling party that a fancy taxi.
No, and I used to date a limo driver!
When I was in grade school, a friend of mine’s father owned a limo service. Free rides whenever I was over at his house
Other than that, a friend of mine saved up her birthday money and had a limo for her 16th birthday. Unfortunately, it got stuck in the mud at the restauraunt, so we had to have a replacement limo. With liquor in it. Oh poo
I worked at a software company in North Carolina one summer. One of my co-workers had purchased an old limo. He spent most of the summer restoring it and then sold it at a tidy profit. Before that, he gave all of us office-mates a few rides to local restraunts and such.
But no one has ever given me a proper chauffered limo ride.
I can’t recall seeing many limos anywhere other than the big hotels downtown. Then again, I typically avoid Opryland and other such places.
The Vanderbilt area. West End. Music Row. Belle Meade. The places you mentioned. Airport. It’s rare I will be driving in Nashville and not see at least one limo. Maybe that’s not as “et up” as Vegas and Hollywood, but still…
Once, in the 90’s, for 20 minutes. Friend’s bachelorette party, I was in the wedding party.
I’ve been a groomsman in several weddings. I’d say three times there was a limo. I like what my cousin did, it was cheaper to rent three matching Lincoln Town cars for the weekend than for one limo the day of the wedding.
Often.
When I first moved to the Chicago area, I lived out in the western suburbs. There were half-a-dozen or so of us working for this company who were all about the same age, all single, all pretty friendly, and almost all living in the same apartment complex. About once every other month or so, we’d head downtown after work on Friday, and a limo was a pretty economical option when split among the whole party. We could get as tanked as we wanted and not have to worry about driving home.
I would also frequently use a limo company to get to and from O’Hare Airport. The companies I worked for all had negotiated rates with such a company, so it made as much economic sense as a taxi (CTA wasn’t an option from the suburbs). Sometimes it would be a town car, sometimes a full-on stretch, depending on what driver was available.
I was in a limo just last week. I was up in San Francisco to do a dog-n-pony for the game I’m working on and part of the deal involved shooting a promo video. Marketing had arranged for a limo to pick up me and my producer in downtown SF and ferry us to the studio and back again. There was bottled water in the back, but no Cristal.
