Ever seen a more bizarre criminal case? Ex NFL QB arrested twice in one weekend?

Ryan Leaf, a former NFL quarterback drafted in the first round, was arrested twice in one weekend for the exact same crime. Breaking into houses to steal prescription pain medicine.

Story

I know there is an active thread in the Game Room on this case, but I’d like to approach it from a different angle. This isn’t about a failed NFL athlete being arrested, but rather the insanely stupid nature of this crime.

I often read the “Offbeat” section of the newspaper online and they will occasionally have a story about someone getting 2 DUIs in one day, usually arrested in the early morning and then again later that same day. I’ve seen stories about someone getting 3 speeding tickets in the same day.

But I don’t think I’ve ever seen a story about a person getting arrested for breaking into someone’s home to steal prescription medicine, going to jail, posting $76,000 bail and then going out to get arrested for the exact same crime 2 days later! Especially since that accused criminal was already on probation for a similar crime.

I’m sure Mr. Leaf must have had some reason to know that there would be prescription pain medicine inside the houses he broke into. If a random thief broke into my apartment, the only prescription medicine he’d find is an asthma inhaler

A couple of points for discussion: Is this one of the strangest criminal cases you’ve seen? Is this someone who has such a strong addiction to pain medicine that he’d do anything to obtain more, even as far as two identical crimes?

I don’t think it’s strange at all. I think the dude has a problem.

He went to my high school. The whole state of Montana thinks he is a dick. This sounds like something he would do.

Also the entire county of San Diego, and most of eastern Washington State.

I don’t either. It’s pretty typical for drug addicts to repeat the same behavior over and over.

If he could afford that kind of bail, shouldn’t he be able to afford to buy them on the street? I mean who breaks into random houses and hopes they’ll find some benzos in the medicine cabinet?

A dumb ass, that’s who.

EDIT: I guess that should be a dumb ass with an apparent drug addiction.

Speaking for all of Europe and parts of North Africa, we hate the guy too.

I mean, we’ve never heard of him before this, but now we hate him. Just absolutely hate his guts.

This is why he’s a dumbass. He wouldn’t even have to get them on the street. He could probably find a doctor who, for the right amount of money, would look the other way.

And Australia as well

I don’t find his behavior that weird, a drug addict who probably suffered many concussions playing NFL is a recipe for desperate behavior.
