Ryan Leaf, a former NFL quarterback drafted in the first round, was arrested twice in one weekend for the exact same crime. Breaking into houses to steal prescription pain medicine.
I know there is an active thread in the Game Room on this case, but I’d like to approach it from a different angle. This isn’t about a failed NFL athlete being arrested, but rather the insanely stupid nature of this crime.
I often read the “Offbeat” section of the newspaper online and they will occasionally have a story about someone getting 2 DUIs in one day, usually arrested in the early morning and then again later that same day. I’ve seen stories about someone getting 3 speeding tickets in the same day.
But I don’t think I’ve ever seen a story about a person getting arrested for breaking into someone’s home to steal prescription medicine, going to jail, posting $76,000 bail and then going out to get arrested for the exact same crime 2 days later! Especially since that accused criminal was already on probation for a similar crime.
I’m sure Mr. Leaf must have had some reason to know that there would be prescription pain medicine inside the houses he broke into. If a random thief broke into my apartment, the only prescription medicine he’d find is an asthma inhaler
A couple of points for discussion: Is this one of the strangest criminal cases you’ve seen? Is this someone who has such a strong addiction to pain medicine that he’d do anything to obtain more, even as far as two identical crimes?
