I’m looking for some recipes that you use day in and day out. When you get home from work, thisis something that you can throw together in a little bit of time and still get to relax later in the evening.
So many recipes seem geared towards the hosting set - which is great if you’re hosting a party. But I really don’t have time to deal with rounding up 40 ingredients to make one dish for a regular dinner.
1 pork spare rib (if you get them chopped at the butcher that’s one less thing you have to do yourself)
5 cloves of fat garlic (chopped)
2 TBSP soy sauce
2 TBSP shao xing cooking wine
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp 5 spice powder
1 tsp sugar
pinch of salt
Marinate the pork with all ingredients. Leave it in the fridge for at least an hour.
Preheat oven to 200 degree celcius (390F).
Line marinated ribs in a tray. Reserve the garlic for later. Bake for 20 minutes.
Turn the ribs around, baste with marinade. Bake for another 20 minutes.
Turn the ribs, baste with marinade. Place garlic on top of the ribs. Bake for another 5 minutes.
Serve immediately.
I got this recipe ages ago from a blog and it’s become a staple. There’s not much time spent at the stove and you can easily relax or get chores done while the meat is cooking - this recipe is laughably simple especially given how tasty the result is. I get the butcher to chop the ribs for me since that’s the most time-consuming part. 20 minutes into the baking I make some rice in the rice cooker. Then with 5 minutes remaining blanche some choy sum then drizzle sesame oil and oyster sauce, or stir fry some vegies.
