Every Simpson Episode ever starts Thursday.

Because that episode had been pulled from syndication–I was unaware that it had returned a few years later with some line edits.

Nothing in the New York episode has ever been edited for content, though there may have been some syndication-related edits. It’s certainly unedited on DVD.

It’s rare for the Simpsons to ever edit something due to real-world events. The most notable example was the episode where Homer turns out to have stolen an Oscar statuette from Dr. Haing S. Ngor, who was murdered shortly after the original broadcast. In all subsequent airings, the name was changed to Don Ameche.

I’m not sure how true this is. I remember seeing it on TV not long after the attacks (less than a year if I remember right) and line edits are par for the course when it comes to syndicated episodes.

I’m sure some local stations took it out of the rotation, but there was never a blanket ban on the episode by Fox.

Handy by-season schedule of the marathon so you can find your favorites.

Since I was referring to syndication in the first place–the line “They stick all the jerks in Tower One!” apparently has been edited out in some cases.

Right, it’s up to the syndicator to edit it. The people behind The Simpsons have never asked to have it pulled or edited in any way.

Huh! I’ve never had any problem finding full episodes on line. My daughter has spent untold hours watching them.

Here is just one such site:

[[REMOVED LINK]]

Hmm. According to The Simpsons Archive’s capsule review, that exchange has indeed been removed in syndication. However, the capsule’s date is May 2000 – which means the edit was made before Sept. 11th. Interesting.

Which means it’s just one of the many random edits that syndicators make to all syndicated programming.

No, it means they are more powerful than we thought!

They were working on the changes before 9-11. Which means, they KNEW!

Wake up, sheeple!

That edit might have had something to do with the phrase “steaming puss bag”…

So…anyone watching?

There’s not a woman alive who can resist a man who knows how to mambo!

I’ve watched a couple of episodes today. I was surprised to learn the Krusty-Sideshow Bob-Bart feud (complete with Kelsey Grammer) actually began in Season One with Krusty Gets Busted.

I have Thursday, Friday, and most of Saturday off, so I have been/will be watching a shit ton of these. I’ve found any episode I’ve looked for online, but it is nice they’re all just there in order and legally.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen so many of these. I was a day one watcher (and Ullman watcher too, so it’s even longer). I gave up watching at some point in the mid 2000s, but I started back up again. I think watching it on live tv wasn’t holding my attention, but watching it on hulu while I’m doing other things (like reading The Dope)? I can get into them better.

I like that they’re showing all the chalkboard, couch, and sax changes. With rerun time usually shorter than network broadcast time, sometimes stuff gets cut.

One thing I noticed is when The Simpsons used to air the older episodes on local stations they were formatted like squares on my widescreen TV because they weren’t orginally in HD but the ones on FXX fill the screen. I guess that means they were cropped in some way.

Nope, FXX really should be showing these episodes in 4:3. They’ve put a stretch on these episodes for 16:9. You see it in other shows as well. Done well, it’s hardly noticeable and it probably works better in something like The Simpsons than live action.

Anyway, I have the first ten seasons on DVD, so I have no idea why I’m compulsively watching this marathon.

I love the sexy slither of a lady snake.

For what it’s worth, it looks like I was right they are clipping the top or bottom of images but I don’t care, still loving this. Also this article says this marathon is without syndication cuts while future airings will be cut for time. That was good to know.
