It’s a working weekend for me so only caught a few eps from last night this morning (Season 4) but that mean’s Seasons 6 and/or 7 will be up when I go back home, so more prime material (and even though I own all the DVDs, I like having things just play out for me and being surprised by what comes next).
I agree. It’s like how songs sound better when you hear them on the radio.
I’ve just left it on the channel when the tv’s on and enjoying it a lot. Compared to the news lately, I’ve found I’m much cheerier with this on. (Yes, I’m sticking my head in the sand!)
The only really sad part for me was when I had it on and heard Phil Hartman’s voice coming out of the tv. Miss ya Phil.
Yes, he was such a blessing in general, but that show in particular. Two indelible characters that departed Springfield when he did. And now Marcia Wallace is gone, too. ![]()
Plus, the two I saw this morning back to back had James Brown and Ernest Borgnine in them, two of what must be many many celebrity cameos who have also departed. (sigh)
Woohoo!! I only got to watch a couple hours of TV this weekend as I babysit a code release, but the two times I turned the TV on, I got to watch one of the two top ten all-time episodes, Stonecutters and Lemon tree.
Waiting for 8/28 at 1PM. (Michelle Kwan episode)
BTW, what was the name of the episode with the company baseball team? When does that one air?
You’ve missed it. That’s Homer at the Bat from season 3.
Interesting. I noticed that the top was cropped because it ruined a joke in an episode a couple days ago. Homer and Barney are touring the Duff Brewery and the guide points out the machine bottling Duff’s three most popular beers, Duff, Duff Lite, and Duff Dry. In the original episode, the joke is that you can see that all three are being filled from the same overhead pipe. With the the cropped version you get the three beat pause to get the joke but you can’t see the overhead pipe at all. It’s like Garfield without Garfield.
From the episode where George H.W. Bush moves to Springfield and spanks Bart for destroying his memoirs:
Granpa: When I was a kid we got spanked by presidents until the cows came home. Grover Cleveland spanked me on two non-consecutive occasions!
That also happened to a Far Side cartoon…
D’oh!!!
:smack:
I think I missed my favorite (of ALL my favorites)
Apu: “Please do not offer my god a peanut.”
That may be the best Apu line ever.
I like how Burns pinch hit Homer for Daryl Strawberry because of the righty/lefty thing. They could do the same thing today by bringing in Homer to relieve a starting pitching with a perfect game going into the bottom of the ninth because of his pitch count.
Poochie time, everybody!
I’m really enjoying this. I’ve caught some of my favorites, missed some of my favorites, but it’s still great. And yes, all the now-dead celebrities guests really bums me out too.
I am thoroughly enjoying always having something to watch!
The default convo in our house is this–
“You’ll never guess what’s on!”
“Oh look! The Simpsons is on!”
And–
“Weren’t we just watching the Simpsons?” (Especially funny first thing in the morning.)
We haven’t changed the station since Thursday. Jeebus, the early episodes were amazing.*
The hardest to take of the dead celebrity cameos for me was Johnny Cash as Homer’s spirit guide. I had forgotten he had even done a cameo.
*And Jeebus, I’m tired of that undershirt commercial. It’s like they think we’ll forget about it if they put one commercial in between replays of it.
The saddest moment for me was remembering I was in college when the Homer goes to College episode aired.
Also, interestingly, going by the when Homer and Marge first met (the first time they did that story), they would be out of high school 40 years.
When it first aired, Marge was about the same age as my mother. Now I am older than marge. ![]()
If they aged real time since the Ullman airings, Bart would be nearly forty.
I’m watching the Emmy’s and it’s literally the only other thing I’ve watched since Thursday morning.
I love this because I always know something is on, and I wish this was all the time.
How viable would an all Simpsons network be? I know they’re doing the online thing, but c’mon guys, opinions…think it would fly?
