Everybody read me PLEASE

Wow, and I thought this was some urgent call to action.

Since it masqueraded as something I should actually pay attention to I will respond by totally ignoring anything the man ever did, including wiping all memory of singing something of his in my high school choir. (I liked it at the time, but now, thinking back, it can’t be all that good.)

So I’m not a fan.

If you want a real composer to worship check out John Rutter.

Oh, and I’d love to see a cite on your spewage of “facts”.

Is this a serious thread?

I was thinking this was a work of sarcastic, ironic genius. Then I realised you were serious. Wow.

Er. Price Humperdink (or however you spelled his name) was played by Chris Sarandon, not Mandy Patinkin. Patinkin played the Spaniard Inigo Montoya.

C’mon, guys. I thought us Dopers knew The Princess Bride better than that.

C’mon, joke’s over. You’re kidding, right? RIGHT? please?

This has got to be one of the funniest things I’ve read in a VERY long time.

The OP was joking, right? RIGHT???

JuanitaTech! You changed your sig! Man, I really liked the old one. :frowning:

What’s the new one from?

[sub]I know, I know, it’s not apropos of the OP, but hell, what is?[/sub]

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing everybody he didn’t exist.[sup]1[/sup]

The greatest trick Dee pulled was convincing everybody she was serious when she was joking.

Or should that be joking when she was serious?

[sup]1[/sup]Verbal, The Usual Suspects

I thought witnessing was supposed to go in GD?

Next: my deep appreciation for the masterworks of Heino.

Since I have nothing to say to the OP (other than that if it’s serious (and I think it is(and did I mention that I enjoy nested paretheses)), it’s hilariously pathetic), I’ll adress LindyHopper’s question.

Lindy, for shame! It’s a Simpsons quote! (From the episode where Sideshow Bob runs for mayor and stuffs the ballot box with the names of dead people.)

Up until the 6th paragraph of the OP, I thought this was going to be a “cry for help/advice” type thread. But it’s so much better.

For you all demanding it!

Somehow I find it hard to believe that the number of Humperdink fans is greater than the number of N*Sync fans.

Not that I care much for either, but the idea stretches my mind’s credibility meter.

Oh. Well geez, I can’t keep track of every Simpson’s quote! Well, I probably could, but I don’t. Thanks anyway.

What my “everybody” post is all about is fairness.

Why do you attack ME instead of the issue here?

I don’t see that I’ve done anything wrong.

It’s all very simple:-

I mentioned E.H.'s name and I met with a lot of ridicule about him.

I’ve got my own special reasons for feeling hurt by that. I did’nt like that and I thought before any more was said, E.H. should at least be given a fair shake.

I’m just trying to defend someone I like.

It may be laughable to you, but not to me.

You write as if you did not read me right.

I’m not asking you to like him, and I already said that many times. I don’t expect you to like his music either, and I already said that.
To each his own.

But I think he should be given credit where credit is due. Many people hear that name he has and because it’s funny, they think he must be too. It’s too bad he’s had to live with such an obstacle in his life.

So, I thought I’d present some info. about him to you, and , hopefully, undo some of the wrong ideas about him that so many seem to harbor.

He deserves to be defended when someone makes untrue statements about him, or insulting remarks. (don’t YOU?)

Like I said, it’s very simple. Why do you enjoy making a laughing stock of me? It’s almost saddistic.

In case any of you are curious , like violet seems to be, here are at least 2 on-line addresses that you can examine. :-

This one is one of my favorites. It’s a photo gallery and there are a variety of pix of E.H.,…starting from the 60’s to the present time.

Some pix are verygood and some okay, and others I don’t care for because they are those of him in the 90’s up to now and, of course, he looks very differant, and has a differant look. In a way it’s odd. He seems to have changed so.
BUT,…as I said before , when I think of him I see him as he was in his prime. That’s the E.H. I knew when I was so young.

Here it is:- www.engelbert.net/welcome.htm

Keep clicking ; some of the first pix are sort of distracting, rather than good. Click through the whole thing;…it’s fun and you have nothing to lose.

The other is a more recent site. I don’t care for it because the pictures of him are not very good and he is 60-some yrs. old. Click everything, however, and try to find some pix that are differant. For music with the pix, click the word “gallery” on the top left side.

There’s lots of other music too (even some poetry he reads )

His voice isn’t as good as it used to be too; in my opinion, that is. The younger voice was better.

Here that is :- www.engelbert.com

Whatever, when the laughter dies down on this board , try to think of something nice to say.

Nice shoes.

but…he wasn’t born with that name.
He chose it as an adult performer.

Who is he talking about?

deeward dear, I am glad to know that you have felt rewarded by your experience of Mr. Humperdink’s artistic endeavors.

No kidding. Really.

But as you must realize by now, this group will not likely give him any sort of endorsement. There have been other artists with not dissimilar career tracks - Wayne Newton, Barry Manilow, etc. - who’ve achieved substantial commercial success and thus demonstrably have their admirers.

And that’s great. For them. For you.

But, apparently, not many here are inclined to appreciate Englebert’s efforts. There’s no accounting for taste. I prefer Zappa, the Stones and Wagner over many other popular artists.

And, now that the truth must be known - I was trying to gloss over it earlier - for me, it’s the damn socks.

If deeward is not female, I’m going to be confused (what esle is new?).

The title is misleading, there is no poll, and you already have a thread dedicated to EH.

Lockdown.
