Evil, TV show (Many spoilers)!

It seemed to me that the psycho boy was wearing the VR goggles at the beginning of his episode. Made me think that the goggles had something to do with his actions. But then the goggles are not mentioned in his story arc anymore that episode.

And when the girls weren’t allowed to wear them anymore, one says that the game doesn’t end unless you log off, so I was expecting something more to happen with them.

Both times it seemed like I missed something. Guess those parts of the story just ended.

And yes, the parents clearly killed their son.

This.

The fact that Ben the Magnificent’s (I like the name and I’m going to keep using it) Alexa went beyond what the hacker could do after the hacker was taken off the table, and the fact that Miles Drentell still heard voices and killed himself after the hacker was taken off the table, tells me that there really is a supernatural in this universe. So cool, I’m going with it.

(And FTR, I’m a devout atheist, but I can handle fiction. Although I understand and respect JAQ’s position.)

Yeah, I mostly bailed after about 3 episodes because I just couldn’t take all the freaking shrieking all the damn time. Plus the kid actors are very actor-y, and so the characters seem artificial and fake to me. Can’t stand the youngest one.

I just don’t care about the “good” characters enough to follow them. I like Aasif Mandhvi. And I love the psychiatrist’s office with all the windows. I’d love a space like that.

Is it taped in Canada? The location seems generic to me like they’re not being specific about what city they’re in. Or did I miss something?

More annoying than genuinely scary to me, so I bailed.

Just watched the latest episode.

Minor spoilers for those that care.

Again, a lot of obfuscation. There is a prophet and they are trying to determine her veracity. When they talk about her accuracy, they give her a seventy percent. Isn’t that high? Like really high? Even if they had said fifty percent, that seems high. The vagueness was that we don’t know how widespread it was. If it was just local stuff, maybe that allows for the vagueness and the prophet is good at guessing? If worldwide, that seems high.

Now, there was a cool scene where Leland finally comes over to meet Kristen and her girls and that confrontation was pretty good. Then there is a scene later between Leland and Sheryl that makes no sense to do. They don’t break up, as Sheryl tries to do, but sleep together and the bed explodes into flames as they are having sex. Now, it could be to say the sex is hot. I have not seen it done that way before and to do it that way in this type of show seems to mean more than just hot sex.

I find the show watchable due to the main cast but still think there is supernatural in this world because otherwise, stuff doesn’t make sense to me.

Rewatching this one now -

you are correct - it definitely is implied its the boy with the goggles at the beginning.

but -

What happened to the older daughter/girl that answered the door in the beginning? SHe disappears right after they go in, the parents do NOT introduce her - and she is never seen again.

Well, I did miss one line when I posted this - Ben does refer to the oldest daughter when talking about the possible corrosion in the pipes. So, she was there for a moment anyway.

Bump
Anybody still watching?

Watched the latest episode last night. And this morning, I STILL have that stupid song stuck in my head!!!

we’re still watching -

Yes - in fact I think it is getting better. The episode at Acosta Sr’s farm was both creepy and hilarious. The resolution of the kid with the gun plotline was truly a “holy shit!” moment that I was totally not expecting.

Luckily I do NOT have that stupid song (or a pencil) stuck in my head…

We’re watching! I didn’t know a new episode was out. We’ll likely watch it today.

The kid with the gun was also the tech in the earlier episode - With the theater producer and the hacked google/apple devices (3 Stars).

…I too had this song (and the Jingle Bells variant) in my head for at least a day. The song was by Jonathan Coulton(he did the music recaps for the TV series BrainDead and Portal’s “Still Alive”, among many other viral hits) so no wonder the song stuck around

Does anyone know if they actually used the frequency only kids can hear in show? I know they did that in an episode of Person of Interest a few years ago so just wondering if they did that here.

This show is probably the creepiest thing I’ve seen on network TV that I can remember, and its creepy for me in three different ways: the sound design for the show is absolutely brilliant. Its the *absence *of sound in a lot of scenes that makes this work: at times no soundtrack, no music, just silence, punctuated by ambient sounds, the absence keeps you on edge, you wait for the jump scare but the jump never happens. Secondly: we don’t know what is “supernatural” and what isn’t. Almost everything has a real-world explanation but is open to supernatural interpretation. George in the first couple of episodes was given a plausible explanation: but do we believe it? And the Virtual Assistant in the 3rd episode that was taunting his sister: it was probably another hacker, but was it really and can we be sure?

And that scene with the sister was the third really creepy thing about the series. Questions that probably won’t get answered. There is a whole backstory about Ben’s sister that we will probably never learn. There is something not quite right about Bouchard’s husband’s absence and his return. I thought that Bouchard’s daughters would be an annoying addition to the cast but their stories every week have been great, and left me uneasy. And the heel turn of Christine Lahti’s character was unexpected, and I have no idea where they are going to go with that.

The fact that I can’t predict where this series is going to go is probably my favourite part about it. I agree with ya’ll, the series has gone from strength-to-strength.

We gave up.

I am still watching and enjoying this show. I really liked this week’s episode with the earworm song. I agree with a lot of Banquet Bear’s comments about the show.

Yes, I am really curious about this. Has she been corrupted by Leland and is now a willing accomplice with him? Or is Leland somehow controlling her like a puppet? Is she possessed by a spirit so that it’s not really her?

And I totally thought it was Judith Light playing Kirsten’s mom until you posted that it was Christine Lahti. I had to look it up to make sure. :smack:

I think the best new show of the year. Evil Granny telling the kid to hit the other one with a rock in her hand was pretty chilling. That song was creepy as hell. And the cliffhanger at the end- can’t wait for these holidays to end.

This show is getting better and better as it goes on. I find myself actually feeling unsettled at times. It is definitely creepy. Many times I have been taken by surprise at what happens next.

I agree. I didn’t like it at first (see my comments earlier in the thread), but “unsettling” is a very good word for it. Most network TV is fairly predictable, but with this one I have no idea where it’s going.

The shrieking girls still bug me (still don’t know where there have to be *four *of them!) but not as much. And I think there’s something up with Dad.

I like that Dad is clealy an athiest, non-believer - he defeated Rose390* with just a ‘fuck it - you’re gone’ type attitude - where Kristin is being ‘affected’ by all that is going on around her.

The turn of Grandma is really interesting to see how that plays out.

*it was nice to see them bring that thread back and conclude it - the writers are doing a good job of weaving things in and out - and is the painting in Leland’s office an Acosta? (note the symbol inthe lower right corner)

At this point, I would think Kirsten would have to reconsider her work with David because of what happened with her daughter in this episode (stabbing herself in the ear). Kirsten’s work is starting to pose a real danger to her family. Previous incidents like the VR game and the Halloween ‘visitor’ could not be attributed directly to her work, but this one can. Oh and also the journals that Leland tried to give her daughters that had the symbol from the ancient text on them–that certainly freaked her out.

Kristen.

:smack:
I keep typing Kirsten.
