Anyone else playing Evony? I just started a few days ago.
It’s a bit like Travian, with a persistent world, city building, and such. It’s free, but you can pay money to get game tokens which you can use to power up.
I’m on server 23 which just began. If you join, look for alliance Solace. You have 7 days of beginner protection, so don’t be worried you’ll get creamed right away.
TBH, all I know about this game is that they advertise on the Dope with a drawing of a large breasted woman with lots of cleavage showing, saying something about how adventure is waiting for you “my Lord”, or something. If anything the ad kind of turned me off to trying it, as I’d rather not be in a gaming universe with lots of sexually frustrated teens.

I started a couple of days ago, on Server 31. I suck at these games, though, even without the fact that you’re almost certain to be crippled without putting out money. I still have 5 days on my protection but once that’s gone, I’ll probably be wiped out fairly quickly.
Incidentally, another way this game gets you is that they increase the build times with the level of the building, so that by level 4 of your town hall, you have to wait almost an hour before it’s done. Then they only let you build one thing at a time. You can shorten that time by using an item, but you have to BUY the item (once your initial welcome package supply is used up). I’m fairly certain that by the time my protection is over, I’ll find that there’s no way to get on a defensive footing because of build times without laying out money.
I’m playing, it as is my SO. The bigbreasted woman is nowhere to be found once you start playing it. It’s like Ikarium, and just a simple little world-building game.
You don’t need to pay money. You just need to budget wisely. I never had to pay a cent in Ikarium and I had a thriving town. You need to focus on: people, as well as industry, like iron mines, lumber, and stone, and then you can add things like an embassy, upgrade your town hall, etc.
There are a LOT of sexually frustrated teens but they are easy to ignore. This isn’t a co-op game, necessarily.
All that being said, I quit playing Ikarium eventually because the same asshole kept attacking me over and over again. It was within his rights, but I got irritated and turned the governorship of my town over to my SO. I don’t play these games to fight, honestly. However, until then, I had fun with it for quite a long time.
I too was put off Evony by the ads, and doubly put off once I read this link about the progressive shamelessness of the adverts- going on about “Play discreetly” and “Save the queen!” when it’s a city-building game with no queens involved. It’s not even honest shamelessness! Thanks, I’ll save my time for a game that doesn’t treat me like a tits-obsessed idiot who can’t spot a rip-off when I see one.
I’m playing on server 28. There are some really annoying aspects, like only being able to have one structure in a build phase at a time and no way to queue up more for when it’s done.
I won’t be spending any money it, but I’ll play until I’m killed off.
