A man from Montana created hybrid sheep for hunting by illegally importing body parts from the endangered Marco Polo AKA Argali sheep from Asia, sending the tissue to a lab where it was cloned, and then breeding the resulting male with other species of sheep.
Great avatar/topic match.
The story I saw about this was on Gizmodo and it seemed so unbelievable, I did a double-take and checked that it wasn’t from The Onion (a sister site to Gizmodo). I’d never heard of the Argali sheep or that genetic tinkering of that sort was possible for basically an amateur.

That’s what I find most fascinating. They’ve been telling us for years now that we are approaching the point where people will be able to tinker with DNA in their garage. I guess this is what that looks like.

I’ll have you know that my avatar depicts the noble Ibex, which is a goat , not a sheep!
I kid, I kid!
Like a young ibex.
Science! Now they can start getting the movie people interested. Of course, the fascinating documentary Black Sheep already covered much of this ground.
I hope it never looks like The White Plague by Frank Herbert. Imagine somebody starts tinkering with Covid DNA…

If we have oversized sheep in a desert environment can Stroon be far behind?
Norstrilia is a science fiction novel by American writer Paul Linebarger, published under the pseudonym Cordwainer Smith. It takes place in Smith's Instrumentality of Mankind universe, and was heavily influenced by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. The novel is in part a sequel to ...
A so baaaaad it’s good movie.
Black Sheep was long predated by The Godmonster of Indian Flats which features, you’ll observe, a significantly oversized carnivorous sheep.
Godmonster of Indian Flats is a 1973 American Western horror film written and directed by Fredric Hobbs, and starring Christopher Brooks, E. Kerrigan Prescott, Karen Ingenthron and Stuart Lancaster. Set in a mining and "Old West" tourism community in northern Nevada, the plot depicts the accidental creation of a giant sheep monster that terrorizes the town, as well as a plot about race relations in the 1970s American West.

Oooo! Now I know what I want to watch next Friday night!
Remember the old tale about the sheep in Scotland being black on only one side? This guy can make it happen. I’m holding out for a checkerboard sheep.
Coming soon: “Night Of The Lepus-The Documentary”.
Nitpick: Covid has no DNA. It’s an RNA virus.
