This guy knew the routine at motels. Guests often go back out to their cars to retrieve forgotten items. I’ve done it many times. I realized that I forgot to bring in a bottle of soda, book, road map, or even a snack. I never thought how vulnerable a target that made me for a local POS criminal.
I guess in the future its best to stay in the motel room late at night.
I’m glad he’s going to recover and that Lynn is ok. I’ve run into Lynn many times in the past and she’s one of the most gracious, kind, and downright pleasant people I’ve ever met. I’m just a little stuck on why on earth they were staying at such a low-rent motel. Seriously, two highly paid professionals sleeping at a Motel 6? There wasn’t a Marriott nearby??
If you are on a multi-day car trip, which I gather they were, all you need is a bed and a bathroom. If I am going someplace to stay, I want nice accommodations, but while traveling, I have stayed in Motel 6 and other cheapo places and been perfectly happy.
They were going to give the guy something and hoped he would leave. Smart move. A shoot out in a small room is never desirable. But this guy wasn’t satisfied and decided to try and kill them.
Nothing’s actually wrong with a Motel 6. We’ve stayed in them before. We do research to make sure the environs are safe-ish, but when all you need is a bed and a bathroom, they are super cheap.
I had a big crush on Lynn back in her Headline News days. Interesting story…clearly, both she and her husband were very capable of dealing with the guy.
The majority of Motel 6’s I’ve stayed at were not much better than just sleeping at highway rest stops (as far as rest goes – can’t speak to the security issue.) And they all seem to have a different problem, from cramped conditions to extremely hot lobbies to various methods of noise pollution.
I think most people who think about self-defence and personal safety much would consider a motel parking lot at night to be place and time for increased alertness and preparedness.
