Lately, I’ve been visiting a couple of Christian message boards to supplement my outreach for understanding my faith better. And I try to stay very level-headed while there. However, while I respect other people’s opinions and feel very strongly that they have the right to feel however they choose, some of their comments (those that are VERY hard-line and view situations one way only, black or white) have been getting me down and making me feel combative. Since that’s the exact opposite of what I’m trying to do/am looking for, I went and did a Google search for something more liberal.
That took me to some sites for ex-fundamentalists, charasmatics and Pentecostals. A few didn’t really seem like my type being too fanatical in the ‘anti’ approach. Others weren’t designed very well and weren’t user-friendly. The remainder though, looked interesting and not as biased. Has any Dopers ever had any experience with this kind of thing? If so, what’s it been like? This time, I’d like to know a little more before signing up and going in, then being disappointed. Lastly, I’d like to find a place to discuss religion and it’s issues without it making my blood pressure rise or my depression worse. That’s why I’m thinking I might have to give up the other places I initially mentioned, I just haven’t decided yet. Plus, I can link from there to sites that are even more trying and I don’t need the temptation. I have enough problems as it is and just want to be able to work on them without constantly defending myself, muddying the waters or hurting anyone else. Gotta find what’s right for me.
