The Other Ones, the remnants of the good ol’ Grateful Dead, are touring this fall. Tickets for some of the shows in this area (northeastern U.S.) go on sale tomorrow. I’m going to try to get tickets to the November 23 show in Philly!
I’m incredibly excited, as you might know, but I wonder what songs they’ll play. It’ll be tough to do the ones that are considered Jerry standards, but when Bobby’s Ratdog toured, they did do Terrapin.
What do my fellow Deadheads think they’ll play?
I can’t wait! I need a miracle, though…
(Oh, and if anyone wants to go see them at the MCI Center in Washington, they’re gonna be there, too.)
You just have to call Ticketmaster, right? No more 3 x 5 cards and number ten sized envelopes sent to San Rafael (after taking it to the post office to ensure the proper postmark)
So, is it rude to ask about the size of your tape collection Dan?
It’s not really all that large, Jorel… It’s about 35 audio tapes that have taken residence in my car. Mostly live stuff. I do have some of the live CDs, but with no player in the car…
And yes, as far as I know it’s just a Ticketmaster thing. I’ll miss getting those special tickects from San Rafael, with the anti-fraud markings you could only see with a black light, etc.
Playin’
Looks like rain
not fade away
sugar magnolia (minus Jerry’s line, “she can dance, a cajun rhythm”)
truckin’
good lovin’
estimated prophet
I need a miracle
those are my wild guesses, mostly based on which ones Bobby seemed to enjoy the most way back when. I wish they were coming near me (SC). I’d love to go. Let us know how it goes.
I don’t think we’ll catch a wharf rat, but hey, music is music, right?
I’ve seen Bobby and Phil do a number of songs over the past couple years, so nothing The Other Ones play will really surprise me, unless it’s something like Morning Dew or To Lay Me Down, ya know?
Anyway, as far as tapes go, I’ve got a nice little collection (about 500hours), so if you’re looking to trade some cassettes and/or discs, lemme know!

Well, I was surprised when they did Terrapin a couple of years ago in New Jersey; I thought Bobby would just stick to “his” songs.
So I dunno what to expect.
But considering this is about all the music I listen to, both to and from work, I think they’ll play something I wanna hear.
Which reminds me of a game I used to play when I went to the shows. Since they had such a massive playlist, there was always the chance that they’d play a song I’d never heard of. So I’d tally them in my mind - okay, six I’ve heard of, four I haven’t…
Bobby and the Midnights or whatever name they play under these days, is pretty heavy blues/rock type stuff. Dunno what the Raised from the Grateful Dead will play though.
Some friends of mine went to see the Other Ones at Alpine Valley over the summer. They used to follow the Dead back in the day, and they said the magic was definitely still there.
The singer they have to do Jerry’s parts was exceptionally good & sounded just like Garcia to boot. Don’t know his name, but I guess he’s a relatively young guy…
I’m seeing them at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit this coming Sunday. I’m not a fan though, never saw the Dead live. Plus I’m only 22. But I’m expecting to enjoy it. I’d say I’d post a setlist, seeing as how I’ll be seeing them almost 3 weeks before you do, but I wouldn’t recognize any of the songs anyway.
O, the excitement mounts! Today’s the day. Knowing me, I’ll probably log on after I get home and let you know what happened, because that’s the kinda helpful dude I am.
