Example of why Peta Tzunami & PLD get so miffed about animal treatment

I’m wondering about the nieghbors .
Anyone I know would have just gone over the fence and pulled the pup.Anyone really concerned would have bandaged the wound.
The dog was in trouble. The really concerned person would have done something about that.Period…
BUT now after taking pictures they are asking for money???
I’d be glad to explain anything about the questions that I raised in my previous post if you wish.

The article was in the Des Moines Register last week.
Sorry I don’t know how to or even if it is possible to access it.
The same group turned loose someones pigeons in SW Iowa later in the week.
The mink farm had been in buisness for generations the article said.

That was horrible. I couldn’t look at the whole page, as the pictures made me ill. Makes me glad that animal torture is a felony here in California. No, it’s NOT “just a dog” - people that can’t treat an animal humanely have no place in civilized society. Pets are supposed to be our friends, our companions. For just a little bit of care, they provide humans with unconditional love. That someone would find it preferable to mistreat an animal is absolutely sickening.

You can find the article by going to the Des Moines Register homepage and searching under mink.

Goddamnit. What an incredibly sad story about Duchess. I would have hurt those people if I knew them and they lived next to me…

And you know what the horrible thing is? It’s not just this one particular pet owner.

The Washington Post has a regular column in it’s weekly regional sections detailing animal abuse and idiocy. Check out the final story in the above link :frowning:

Good news bulletin.

We had a rescue dog - she was about a year/year & a half old. She had 7 puppies & lived in her owners shed & was allowed to roam the streets. At some point she had been hit by a car (or the owner had kicked her…) because her front leg was broken near the shoulder. It had set (wrong) by itself, since she never received any treatment, but while it was setting, she held her foot off the grounds ince it was dragging & the wrist joint had set solid bone & she had calluses on the top of the foot from it dragging on the ground.

When she was rescued, she was so black with ingrained dirt, they couldn’t tell what colour she was (she was a yellow lab).

The neighbours only reported it when they heard the puppies…this had been going on for months - the broken bone no longer had the excess calcification on the x-rays… and they hadn’t reported it.

The local rescue society had a plate put in the shoulder, & spayed her & rehomed the puppies. But the screw from the plate started to come loose & with the set wrist, it would probably never heal all the way. Our vet (since she had been rehomed with us by then) amputated the leg clear back to the shoulder (no stump) & only charged us a fraction of what it should have been as she was a rescue dog. After that she started to put on weight & improve properly.

OH MY GOD!!

I would make my neighbor’s life a living hell if he/she abused their pet in that fashion. Or anything closely resembling it. We used to feed and water a neighbor’s dog that they left on their upstairs porch with no shade or water all day. Or cover if it rained. We also called the Humane Society.

I realize why you put this thread here but the opinions and descriptions of anyone who would do this to a pet are best left to The Pit. I think this is an area where PETA should concentrate. I am known to be a PETA NON-SUPPORTER but that is due to some outlandish tactics and some differences of opinion. This type of act however is indefensible and I praise the drawing of attention to it. People who would do this to a pet should be shot.

Our dog is a part of our family. If anyone mistreated my dog they would face the wrath of Sledman. And I guarantee that they would suffer an equal or greater amount of pain than they inflicted.

I can not fathom people who would do this to a pet. The neighborhood should take action as a whole against this family.

I am not a supporter of threatening people to burn in hell. I do belive that people can reform and should be rewarded for such conversions to good. That said:

I almost want to be Catholic so I could know that those people earned a lot of time in Purgatory. So I don’t have to feel compelled to hunt them down and beat them myself. Or throw them in front of a bus. And leave them there. The Animal Control officer should be castrated.

While I am of the mind that child abuse is more ignored and important than animal abuse, cases such as these are horrific. The lack of empathy needed for such disgusting behavior is unspeakable.

I just don’t get it sometimes. Peopel are capable of such beautiful things, such grand ideas, behaviors, and yet…they manage to also be capable of the most imaginative cruelties.

How can you make a statement like this.
At some point she had been hit by a car (or the owner had kicked her…) because her front leg was broken near the shoulder.
If I was the owner of the dog I would be looking for you.!!!
