Hi all,
I’m having an odd network problem. Several users (myself included) are having a problem getting Microsoft Outlook 97 to open. It seems to be hanging when checking the e-mail password. It actually stops responding. Only three or four of us are having this problem. We’re running Windows NT 4.0, exchange server and Windows 98 workstations. Any opinions/advice would be welcome. Internet searching is God awful for this sort of thing. Thanks!
try pinging the server. It should tell you if it is operating properly. If not, contact your SYS admin. it it responds from a ping, recreate your profile and reboot.
I had a similar problem at my site recently. John and Wonko both have good ideas, and this usually works for me. You might want to get an upgrade to Outlook98, since everyone using that here never has the amount of connexion problems that 97 users do. that and OL98 has a ‘good’ security patch for catching this new rash of viruses.
Thanks for the replies. Now every person on the network can’t get into e-mail, but I can ping…very odd. I have a service call in to my computer geeks fix it people, so hopefully they’ll have some ideas.
freaky. dunno what to tell you. are you able to restart the exchange server?
if you can, go to the server and see if you have a monitor that will tell you what traffic is going through it. maybe its too busy to accept logins. you might also want to traceroute the serve to make sure you aren’t being bounced somewhere you shouldn’t be.
